It could be that you need more memory. When an application loads it takes a certain amount of computer memory, when it loads and dresses up at the same time it takes even more!

If you use WinXP try increasing your paging file size since maybee your applications are limited to your RAM because of WindowsBlinds, I made my pagefile 1GIG and had no problems sometimes it is because of your video cards draw capacity.

whoa 512MB?!!? hmmmmmm.... it could be the page file (how the computer... sotheing something.... I forget). While your running windowblinds get the task manager up and see what it is doing. if the cpu load is low but the memory is almost gone then it is the pagefile. go to the control panel and search around for the settings to change it. It took me a while so I do not remember where it is (and I have win2000 but that shouldn't make that much of a differnce).

so give it a shot

Try different skins. It shouldn't be really slow. Check that your virus scanner (if you have one) isn't scanning WBD files, or perhaps the BMP files that make up the skin.

if the above don't help, here's the classic troubleshoot:

set everything you can on your machine to -not- load on startup, including wb. reboot. go to your system tray and exit everything you can. start your task manager, or 'performance' in xp [start/programs/administrative tools.] now load windowblinds. you shouldn't see too much of a jump. now start loading your usual compliment of apps, and look for the hit.

i've found wb to be prety good on my p200 with 160mb of ram.
i used to run pccillin 2k all day and night, but the real time scanner really did slow it down. antiviruses really slow things down, watever your system.....

ok increased page file to 1 gig... still having slow window problems... especially my windows task manager window... i leave it open to check my resources, then open windowblinds, then the TMW goes blank... it doesn't refresh and stays blank, and unskinned... my video card is an Nvidia Geforce2 MX 400 w/ 64MB video memory so i'm guessing it's draw capacity is fine... i still need help people!!!!

yea i did try the suggestion by migelito with all un-needed programs closed and only had the performance window open. i opened up window blinds and then the taskbar was skinned properly along with the start menu but the windows still were not skinned, and my performnace window went blank too. i don't know what to do and i would really like to get it working, cuz it's a very neat program... if i can't get this to work, does anyone know any alternate programs to skin my windows and such?

i was also checking out a newsgroup about stardock and some people had put messages up that they were GeForce 2 MX/400 users like me and experienced the same problems as me... maybe it's just my video card and i should upgrade.. i dunno

is there anything that can be done by the makers of windowblinds to find out what is wrong and diagnose this problem and issue a somewhat of a hotfix??

Ya my parents comp have a GeForce2 and sometimes the skins became all black but I just had to reload them but it does not happen on my comp I have a GeForce4 MX 420.

Well, you could package up your computer and send it over to Stardock HQ . . . not sure if they'd send it back, though. *g*

I am running a G2 MX400 on a P3 933 and its works beautifully with Windowblinds. Don't think its your video card.

You really need to check what programs and how many are loading up when you start windows. With that amount of RAM you should not be having any problems. Check your system info for any conflicts or incompatible drivers (Device Manager). Make sure you Tune-up your PC regularly -Scandisk and Defrag. Also try excluding big programs from WindowBlinds -just in case. Try deactivating the DBB enhancer under advanced options in WindowBlinds. Above all e-mail stardock support with this problem!
