I REALLY like that idea. I have no icons on my desktop, but would like to find out how this was done. One would think it wouldn't require an actual program, but what do I know...........

I hope to hear more on this!

Yep............HvD can do it.

I'm sure there's more than one way to it..........
You can create a bitmap that is only text, with a "magic pink" background and use that as your tile for the link. Of course you would need a bitmap for each link.

This desktop can be achieved very easily in Desktop X.
All you need to do is create text based objects. The beauty of the theme in the screenshot is in it's design and not it's execution. If you find a wallpaper that you like, and you got permission to use it, you could make a DX theme just like it.
In fact, I may try and do something similar myself.
By the way, I have already made a theme that consists of mainly text links, it's not as pretty as the one in the screenshot, but works in a similar way. It's called "BoXXiDX" and it can be found in the DesktopX section, and there is also a Litestep version in the Litestep section.

OR you can use a piece of freeware called ICONDESK by Bulent Yukruk. I forget where/when I got it, but the site in the about box is: byukrul.tripod.com. I don't care for on my desktop and I'm still learning to use DesktopX. Just a thought...

hmmm.. i get a 404 on it..

a couple years ago i made several desktops that were like what this sounds like, though. no icons, not even trash. little places around on the wallpaper, either labeled or not, were hotspots to activate certain things. i don't remember them all, but i know i made some out of several of tech-13's old wallpapers. i also used the wallpaper dangeruss made out of the pixel industries site http://www.pixel-industries.com/index2.html

for example, i'd click on a 'button-looking' part of the wallpaper and my cd drive would open and close.. great for impressing the natives

i used nextstart for it, and it worked quite well. dx would also work, as boxxi said above.

I have started to make a theme in the same vein as the screenshot that gewoon posted. I don't know how it will turn out, but we'll see! I have used my "Gridscape" wallpaper as a base image, but have altered it quite substantially. I will post a screenshot when I get nearer the end.

Well, I finished it, you can see it here.. https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=3&SkinID=1954
It was quite easy to replicate in DX, but obviously my wallpaper is vastly different to the one gewoon posted in the S/Shot. But you could put any wall behind this theme and just change the text colors, as everything is text based.
See, I told you it could be done with DX, quick and easy too!

My pleasure. I'm sorry, but I only made that wall in 1024. As I said above though, you could change the wall for another that you like, and just change text colors and position etc.
