Wanna see a killer design???

Wanna see a killer designed website and get a free website at the same time? Go to my page: http://extremehq.101main.com and enter the portal to the new web! Oh, and take a look at my skin, which will be posted here after approval, at: http://extremehq.101main.com/downloads/xhqnebula1024x768.jpg

(Just change the 1024x768 to 800x600 or 640x480 depending on your resolution. ex: xhqnebula800x699.jpg)

"killer designed" ? I really don't think so...

Hmm, I don't know which is less impressive: the "killer" design, the "unlimited" free space (although your hard drive is only 10 GB), the FTP service that's open from 4pm to 9pm EDT, or you spamming the WinCustomize message board.

Oh, I forgot about the "skin". That's called a wallpaper, Commander x.

Why do I always respond to these things?

Oh but it is killer design. It killed good taste.

/me notes that we're all sceptic bastards here

And I thought, I gave an 'evil' answer...

Self-promotion is never very successful, and your 'skin' or wallpaper to give it its proper name suffers from a few famous 'ills', one of which is the clever lens-flare effect that I'm sure no-one has ever managed to do before.

I'd suggest a strenuous re-working prior to submission...

hehe
/me wonders what it would be like to see the wallpaper reviews side by side of Shog and Jafo

Shog = It sucks!

Jafo = wallpaper to give it its proper name suffers from a few famous 'ills', one of which is the clever lens-flare effect that I'm sure no-one has ever managed to do before.

just kidding! (but come to think of it, that might be interesting)

Come on Jafo you know you're gonna let that one in right?
looks like one of mine actually... hehe

hi re the wallpaper:

:: although space-themed wallpapers can be an interesting science or tech-oriented departure, this needs a bit more depth of effort for posting. the blue is perhaps not the best choice for a nebula effect, and might be better done with a mistier combination of hues. most nebulas in nature focus more on the purple and red areas of the spectrum. also, the lens flare and text, including the signature monogram, tend more toward distraction than adding to the image. lastly, the flame design, in addition to seeming disconnected from the rest of the image, is perhaps innapropriate for a space vista. please consider adding additional items of interest such as a planetary system, galactic formation or man-made construct

Commander X,

I also think that self-promotion is not likely to contribute to your success. Spamming this site will assuredly not get you a positive response (as demonstrated so well in the above responses). However, I think you have a good start on graphics...so you should keep working and learning.

All, (except mig)

I don't think that the negative comments here do any good (mob mentality if I ever saw it). What's a community worth if it doesn't support and encourage its members? Constructive criticism, as provided by mig, is the what we should strive for.

Comments of the sort provided above are exactly what keeps me from submitting my work (pitiful as it may be) to the site. As a newbie to both graphics and skinning, I would be devastated (well my feelings would be hurt) if I got that kind of response.

Spamming is BAD, yes - but it shouldn't be a reason to slam this guys work (there are at least a few DesktopX objects on this site, as well as some skins that are of worse quality - IMO). Slam him on his lack of tact, but not his work.

I wonder what your(pl) early works were like - and how you(pl) might have evolved - or not - had you(pl) received this kind of treatment when you(pl) were starting out. Treetog might have decided to take up ceramics instead of becomming the artistic genius he has become, for example.

Just my $.02,
Stefan

I agree with Peff, this guys walpaper may not be good but he's trying! migellito at least made an effort to sugest some way forward (Top marks)! I'm not an artist but I might be and if everyone just said I was crap then I'd get pretty pissed off. I'd certainly stop trying to post here. The other link is just (In my view) just enthusiasm to get ahead on the web and to be encouraged but GUIDED. There are plenty of people o this site that could help??

Actually, I was quite 'restrained' in my comments specifically because of the 'public' forum, not wanting to bruise his ego TOO much...

I'd suggest a strenuous re-working prior to submission

I was being subtle, perhaps too subtle.
Instead, mig clarified/elucidated point-by-point, so the education process is in place...

@Peff : But I (and most people here with real graphic skills) don't promote any of my uploads here as 'killer designed' (as I really have no right to...)

just doing my job, no big deal i was afraid i was focusing a bit too much on the negative, actually.

space wallpapers, as jafo has said many a time, are very hard to do. it's helpful to spend some time looking around the nasa site, especially at the hubble images, and checking out some classic sci-fi illustrations before getting into one
