Moderation

When a skin is moderated, does the moderator give it a rating? If so, does it show zero ratings or does it show one?

ok, yeah the mod rating counts as one. also, if the posting author has high enough access the skin gets upped automatically. now, in that case.. hmm.. not sure if that gets counted or not..

If the skin is auto-posted, it gets a rating of 6, which counts as one rating.

I know that the skins that do not get moderated get a 6 with a zero rating. I was just curious to find out if the others got rated and tallied. My next question is: Why would a moderator moderate a skin and give it a 3? It seams that it would not pass moderation with a score like that!

with a wallpaper, no. we try to only put on the best stuff, since wallpapers are such a high upload item [for one thing.]

with other skins, yes. it might get a low rating, but as long as it works and it doesn't break any 'rules' we'll generally put it up.

The 'moderation' of skins...or rather their assessment of suitability is with regards to criteria such as copyrights and permissions, no photo-skins, and whether it's upped in the right category....that sort of thing. If skins were rejected for quality [or lack of] then none of mine would be here....[and we can't have that]...

Thanks all. Just trying to better understand the situation.

Back to my question. Why have a skin go thru moderation and get posted with a rating of 1,2 or 3.? No one will see it after it comes off of the newest additions list unless somebody takes pity a jacks it up to a 4! I've seen 2 or 3 walls and windows that way.

The rating system is designed to help the AVERAGE user. When someone surfs in here, they will see only the BEST the site has to offer, meaning, those skins with a rating of 4 or higher. Don't forget, anyone can change what they see by going to "Edit Account" and adjusting the setting in there.
There has been much debate on this subject, and as far as I am aware it's not going to change.
I suppose, in a way, it also encourages artists and skinners to try harder, and improve their quality.

Oh... Is that why I see a "rate this skin on the new skin options, and not on the comments?" I've been thinking that it was some mistake that I had that option because, technically, I don't know what standards to apply and I am kind of new. I haven't used it because I don't feel very qualified. But I do make some comments to thank the author of the skin and to tell them what I thought.

GoodMorphing, I think it was Paxx or DavidK that had a criteria list that they used to rate skins. I wish they or whoever would repost it.

Thank you. I would like to see that too. (I'm the kind of person who gets things kind of backwards sometimes, and I sure wouldn't want to do that in a case like this!)

Yes, with out overstating it, I think that rating someones work is an awesome responsibility. I try not to let personal taste play a part, but it is hard. There are some skins that i would give a 1 to so I don't rate them, and I download every skin and use it before I rate it.

I Refrain from rating. I would rather comment. To me commenting is more important than rating

GoodMorphing, WiseOldMan, I made that grid to help the rating process. http://pax.gslcom.com/ratings/
Just leave out the comment option at the bottom.

Thanks! I bookmarked it. I think for now I will stick to commenting. I just don't think I know enough right now to be fair. Maybe as time passes I will learn more. I think this will be a good learning guide.
