After you create your own sovereign and write their own backstory; the game still uses the default backstory when you create a new game with the new character.
You probably mean the intro book entry for your character. The background you write is still your characters background (and shows up on your unit info screen), but your background isn't whats displayed on that initial intro book.
But I do agree that if you have supplied a background for your custom sovereign it would be better to display that on the intro book rather than the default text.
