Art

I know that art come in many different forms and medias. I don't agree with a lot of them, but I have a question. How can you compare a hand drawn picture ie(corel, psp or paint shop) with a computer generated picture ie(bryce or terragen)? I down loaded terragen last night and made a nice picture in less than 5 minutes. I would be embarrassed to upload it. I didn't make it, the computer did. Whats everyone else's opnion?

You can do basically the same thing in Photoshop by just applying a bunch of filters to an existing picture. The point at which it becomes something more meaningful is when there's a concept to the piece, and some effort is put into making it. Terragen and Bryce are both programs that can be used to create beautiful images. Letting the default settings determine the final product usually results in an uninteresting image. It takes planning, creativity, a good sense of design and color and spending some time working on it to make a decent image with any of the programs.

But if your 5 minute wall looks good then upload it and see what the evil moderators think...

David: Maybe nice was to strong. Descent would have been a better choice of words. About a 4 on the rating system. I wouldn't upload that.

Wise...'decent'..'descent' means 'going down'.... Spell checker

One other thing to remember, just like bryce, many of the programs have so much more potential then they advertise, Bryce for example is great for landscapes and chrome spheres in a 5 minute image, but that is not even scratching the surface of its potential. take some time and play around with the program, beyond the included planes, objects or etc. Or if you want to work with the primitives there are some excellent things you can create with them when used as building blocks. Do not be fooled by the glossy quick landscapes and etc, dive in deeper and you will be astonished and what will surface.

Well, this or any form of art is not my cup of tea. If I didn't have a ruler I couldn't draw a straight line. My hats off to those of you that can produce these skins. I dl terragen because it was free and I wanted to see if a person with no creative art abilities could make something. I was shocked at what it could do. It was to easy. Yes Mobius, I guess that it could enhance someones capibilities if they had some. But not mine.

Wise...that's so true...[not you specifically...I mean people in general]...
Too often 'ease of creating something' is mistaken for 'this is something good', and uploaded just so we, the great unwashed, can 'moderate' it, explaining politely that 'even the proggy itself wouldn't like this one'....

/me can draw straight lines without a ruler

But then again...

/me can draw

...not that drawing straight lines is any measurement or test of drawing skill.

Bryce, like a pencil, is merely a tool. Use and view it a such.

It is actually rather hard to make something good looking in Bryce. For instance, if you drop a mountain in an ocean, Bryce won't render the waves crashing on the shores and such. You have to add those bits.
