help! Component Manager won't connect, Stardock support won't respond!

I have 2-way satellite internet through DirecWay, and ever since i got it, CM won't connect to the net at all. It doesn't even try -- you click a button and it *instantly* says "Connection Failed. Can't Connect." Even when i completely disable the satellite connection in software and try dialing in instead, CM *still* won't connect. Same error.

I sent an email to Stardock support, but they won't respond. So i'm posting this here in hopes that either
(a) someone else has had a similar problem and can tell me how to get CM to work, or
(b) Stardock support will see it and answer my original question to them, which is, can i download components OTHER than via CM?

thanks!
adrienne

What is in the server address field?

It won't connect to any of the servers -- i've tried every single one in the pulldown menu.

And i *am* using the latest version of CM.

If you are getting no response at all from Stardock support then something is definitely wrong. All emails to [email protected] get an automated reply prior to being responded to by a support representative - so if you didn't get that, then either something is blocking mail from you to Stardock or from Stardock to you.

There is an alternate method. Go to http://www.objectdesktop.net/odnet2/ and fill in your details, then select the components you wish to get from those offered once you click the appropriate section on the left (All, Released, Beta . . .) - once they are downloaded, look in the CM's Downloaded Components section, and they should be there, ready to install.

Adrienne, I am sorry that you have not received a response. I checked our support email logs and could not locate anything under your name or email address. GR's alternate method is what I suggest. It is a web based download manager. It will ask for your registration details, and you need to have the component manager installed (even though it will not connect) to use it. I believe that DirctWay has a proxy, and that is probably what is causing the problem.

No, i did get an automated reply, GreenReaper, just not an *actual*, human-being response.

JB -- DirecWay does use a proxy, so i guess that could be causing the problem.

Thanks for the alt-method. I'll try it tonight when i get home from work, and post a report here. I really appreciate the quick responses here!

Thanks!
