Getting out the Purple

I remember reading at some point on how to get nice smooth edges, shadows, etc for desktop x objects and keep that annoying purple "glow" off but I can't find it. Can anyone please help? I am working on my first desktop x theme and it is going very well but i want smooth edges and no purple. Any help would be greatly apprecitated.

Save as a .png instead of a .bmp.
Png supports per pixel transparency.
Dump the magic pink/purple and then your shapes can be anti-ailised without a problem. Just make sure the background in the image is transparent.

Thanks... helps a lot... I also figured out that Photoshop does better than Paint Shop... at least for this and for me. Again.. thanks.
