Well Slap Some Sense Into Me

... darned impulse buying again.

http://www.oo.com.au/EZPad-740C-Touchscreen-Tablet-_P127768.cfm

Like the title says, slap some sense into me... I went and purchased myself a Pad, of all things.

No, not a sanitary pad but one of those tablet PC thingies.  :-"

What's worse, I don't even need the damned thing.

More to the point, WTF do I want a portable device for when I don't go anywhere much... or often?

Oh well, it has a 2 hour battery life for general use, so it may just... just do the job if I take it into the crapper with me.

I blame my mother for this!  Yup, it's her fault!!!  :X

Yeah, when she was here a couple of weeks ago she bought us this nice rug for our lounge room using my email address, and from that I get these weekly offers for other specials.... and from that [call me stupid] I purchased this Tablet/Pad thingie.

I just couldn't help myself... honest!  It was only $99.00 Oz bucks online... down from a supposed RRP of $399.00.  I mean, how could I leave it there, right?  And there was me, never going to ever buy one of these new fangled yuppy devices.  Now you can slap some sense into me, or out, but don't call me a freaking yuppy.  I'm just in curious mode, that's all.... and at least it ain't one of them confounded Apple things with a damned i in front of it.  Gimme some credit.

Anyhow, here's some of the details.... EZPad 7" multi-touch touchscreen tablet; Latest Android 4.0.3 operating system (Ice Cream Sandwich); Wi-Fi ready; 1080P video capable; Flash 11 Compatible: USB 2.0 and card slot [supports up to 32gb] for additional storage.

Okay, it's not a top name brand or a high end device like the iPad or Samsung Galaxy, and it's only a 7" screen [still big enough to view centerfolds on the Playboy site], but for under a $100 I can't complain and it'll keep me company in the lavatory... just gotta be careful not to accidentally set off the camera while I'm in there, being it's Wi-Fi capable n' all.  I can embarrass myself without inadvertently posting pics of myself perched on the throne.

Orright, that's it. :-" :w00t: ;P

There will be, it seems, a never ending stream of 'toys' so that we can spend our money on.  Some of us though have reached the age that we are able to take a look and say 'oh, how nice' and move on.  :-"

I am so like that with these little gadgets starkers.   5* 5*      They're so fun, awesome and if you ever need it, you're prepared.

Can one be overly prepared? Really?

Yeah, and she'll find out about it here first.  OOOOPS!!!!   Maybe I shoulda rung her first. :S

Nah, she'll be right, cos it's something she will benefit from as well, particularly on her travels to Tassie.  I got her a 500 gig USB powered HDD a while back, so the two combined will be great for transporting and showing family photos and videos both ways, and it'll be a lot easier than taking her netbook.

Actually, although I said I bought it for myself, and in a way I did [I'll benefit from the pics and vids], it was purchased with Shaunna as much in mind, if not more.

Well I haven't got it yet, but I still prefer to be on my desktop rig, though I do have a netbook I could sit on the settee with.  I just prefer the raw power and performance of my desktop unit over the netbook, which by comparison seems very underpowered.  Besides, my puter chair is quite comfy and is easier to get in and out of.

Yeah, the tech train incessantly moves on to deliver new toys, and for the most part I can say "no thanks" because a lot of it I'd never need or use, but every so often something comes along that can/could fill a need and is a good deal. I don't know that I'll have a lot of need for this device, but Shaunna surely will and I reckon something will come to me once I've actually got it in my hands.

So, what you're telling me is that you have a penchant for electronic devices... like me, gadgets of all kinds. Now I don't have any vibrating blow-up dolls or 'adult' gadgets or anything, but I find it's a real buzz when my mobile phone is on silent ring my pants pocket. :-" ;P :X

I'm thinking.... what's the return policy?

Also.... firmly resolve to ask Mark about it next time. The lad (although rather chubby) knows a good deal about things computer.... ;).

Two hours is a rather short battery time....

It has a 12 month return to point of purchase warranty... according to a piece I read, all I have to do is phone and they send a courier satchel, then I just ring the courier when ready.

Yeah, but it's not a high end iPad or Samsung Galaxy, and for the price it's not too bad, I suppose.  The thing is, it most likely will be near a power source in most instances... and the flight to Tassie's only a couple of hours, so it should last Shaunna until she gets to Bianca's.  Nah, I don't think it'll be too much of a problem.  Besides, a spare battery mightn't be a bad idea, either.

Nah, she's in Perth on the other side of this great island, about 5 hours away by air and well out of slapping range.  Besides, Shaunna will be quite pleased with the purchase as it will benefit her greatly when traveling to visit Bianca, the grandkids and other rellies in Tassie.

Also, being that it's quite compact in size it will fit in this slimline case my sister gave us along with all her portable components... portable HDD; USB powered speakers; headset with microphone; webcam; memory cards; external card reader; 4 port USB hub and various cables... the spare battery as well.  The whole thing is a about the size a netbook and fits nicely in her carry-on bag with shoulder strap, so it's very easy to travel with.... well certainly easier than her netbook, which doesn't fit in the slimline case with everything else, so takes up more room and is heavier.

Now I normally wouldn't want/accept promotional/sales emails in my inbox, but after my mother got the $800 rug for just $299 and brought my attention to the site she purchased it from, I voluntarily signed up for their weekly specials newsletter to take advantage of all sorts of amazing specials on all sorts of household goods, clothing and electronics.  Shoot, why not when it saves us money while improving our purchasing ability?

Dunno about drippy dick as yet... incontinence isn't the problem.  However, if a spare battery can be the remedy for droopy dick, I'll buy a couple of dozen extra so's I can feel like a teenager again. :-" :w00t: ;P

No, the spare batteries are not included, but they're only $1.19 each for a pack of 50 non-rechargable or 29.95 for a pack of 4 rechargable units.

No senor, not a steenking iPad.... we don't need no steenking iPads.

As for a Surface, well yeah, those do look rather interesting and may be a future consideration.  For now, though, this is a cheap way to explore the Tablet format and help us make a more informed decision further down the track as to whether we want, need or would use one enough to warrant a greater expense.  Given the potential and benefits I've for Shaunna I imagine we'd likely upgrade to a Surface 10" pad at the right price.

Um, there's no chance I'd consider or accidentally use it for such a purpose.... wouldn't be as soft as the lovely, gentle and luxurious toilet paper we get from Aldi [500 economical sheets per roll] and I'd surely notice the difference, despite the pad having no sharp edges to mention.

What d'yer mean, we'd wait until you got home?  It was a spur of the moment thing about a week after you flew out, and only because I got the email with the low, low price.... and cos I knew it would be better for you than the laptop when going down to Tassie to see Bianca and the kids.  It still hasn't arrived as yet, but the shipping tracker says it has left Sydney, so I reckon tomorrow or Thursday.

Anyhow, it's real quiet around here without you... can't wait 'til you get back home again to have a play with it together.... the Pad, that is.

Hmmm, now you mention it, that was a typo Was supposed to be S199... yeah, I've seen them in stores for around that.

The 10" one I've seen going for $300 + in stores... same brand in 10" at Harvey Norman a while back was $369.95.

Anyhow, it's a good price for an entry level tablet to see how we like the idea, and if we want to go to a 10" one later we'll have a better idea of what to expect.

I just know it won't be an iPad if/when the time comes... I'll not buy Apple products after their recent bad behaviour in the courts.

Yeah, the one one the linked page is an EZPad 723R.  The one we're getting is a EZPad 740C. which looks like a thinner, more sleek looking model.  The features and capacity are similar, though.

Yeah, it is a lovely city and the local scenery is great.  It has been a while since I was there last, but I certainly liked it.  As for living there, well the cost would be enormous.  Just moving our stuff would be 10 to 12 grand plus [more like 15], then there's the cost of setting up home, which would easily run into the several thousands, also. We'd be looking at 20 to 25 grand at least.

Due to the mining boom over there, property rentals are twice that of what they are here at the moment... if you can get anywhere due to miners usually being given first preference.  Sadly, it's all about money, and we are not rolling in it, unfortunately.  Maybe in a few years if things point that way.
