Sins: Trinity on Steam

If you buy SOASE: Trinity on Steam, it says there that you need to create a Stardock account also.

Having done so, can you subsequently download a digital copy from Stardock and in effect bypass Steam thereafter i.e. using the Steam CD key with the Stardock account?

I've heard you can't use Stardock CD keys with Steam, but wondered if it applied the other way around or not?

Yes. Though that does not apply for Rebellion as it uses Steamworks.

Thanks kryo, that's great, as Trinity is 50% off on Steam at the moment.

So, I just use the Steam CD key to enable a download from Stardock then?

Just out of interest, if Rebellion uses Steamworks (presumably for multiplayer?), why do you need a separate account at Stardock as well?
