The amount of system resources desktopX uses

i'm just curious.. lately my system resources seems to jump whenever i open up a new item / window in the and it stays up there.. for a while.. until i have no windows open..

when i have nothing open.. my system resource is around 4-6%
when i have 1 window opened, it's around 30-40%
to me. that's kinda alot..
is it because i have a faulty memory leek skin? or it's just desktop X?

here's my config:
WinXp pro
1ghz cpu
768mb ddr ram pc 2100
120gb hdd 8mb cahce
MSI ti200 videocard
sblive soundcard

With all the people posting negative things towards custo about how the people there are slum I am truly shocked and astonished that they have not tried to help you. Post the same msg in one thier active debate threads. I would tell you what to do to fix that problem that you are having, but it would be negative and im trying to drop the girl.

Give me a break darwn23, we ALWAYS get around to helping our users. It probably depends on the time of day a message is posted, and which admins are around. Please don't come around here posting negative comments in threads when it is patently obvious you are just trying to stir up problems. If you don't like it here, stay at Custo, easy eh? And hope I don't reciprocate on YOUR site, although by all accounts, no-one would see it if I did.

Teikoshen: Do you mean WindowBlinds? because I don't think opening a window would affect your resources like that if you were just using Desktop X.
If you give a few more details, like which window blinds skin you are using, or which DX theme, I'm sure someone here will be able to shed some light on it.

I've found that DesktopX's default theme DOES leak resources. Here's my suggestion:

In any themes that have a pie graph for displaying the amount of disk space free delete them if you find that you're losing resources. It's actually my fault in that I included an older version of that object with that theme.

One question: What are you measuring resources used with? Windows XP doesn't have a % resource reader that I'm aware of. You can literally have thousands of GDI objects and user objects and handles and such.

Hopefully you can learn how to interact with others without being insulting. What a teen thinks is subtle sarcasm is pretty obvious to an adult.

well my message wasn't meant to be negative in the first place

i've tried the demo for desktopX and am well aware of some flaws. (which all programs and softwares has) but inspite of all those flaws, i sitll liked desktopX and thus i purchased the package

just trying to improve the situation alittle

Boxxi :no.. i don't htink it's windowsblinds..i'm using my own theme.. but it's kinda a remake from WoBeWoBeBe theme..
it's when i open a new folder or a new item. my system resource meeter jumps up and stays there.. for example. right this moment my system resources records around 34% usage.
if i use the task manager by windowsXP it records system idle process : 50% or so free
desktopX.exe : 20-35% most of the time..
explorer : below 10% or so..
this is when i have only 3 items running (as in when i alt-tab , there's only 3 items)
my background doesn't have much items running either..
however.. when i have only 1 item running.. with the same amount of background programs.. i get around 20% or less

hope that answers your questions

frogboy.. gonna have to get back you on that.. thnaks!

frogboy : i'm using one of the desktopX objects.. i believe it's from the cromedom.. or something like that.. it's basically a plugin.. it seems kinda accurate.. coz it's the same reading as the task manager..
it's basically reading the cpu usage..

I used that plug-in with one of my themes and it caused problems. Take it out and see what happens.
I use a third party resource meter called cacheman, it just sits in the systray and is very good. I think you can get it at Download.com.

CPU usage depends a lot on what objects you have on the desktop, whether they use alpha blending and also whether they are animated. It alos depends on whether your CPU is doing all the hard work or if it can offload some of it to the GPU (ie it has hardware acceleration for alpha) for per pixel alpha. I'm on an Athlon XP 1700+ with a Radeon 8500 and DX is stable at about 8-9% CPU when using ThredzX which has a fair bit of animation and alpha blending.
