Earth Texture for Rebellion

Ok, wel after a rather lenghthy 6 hours of textureing i have finally managed to create a planet earth for Reellion utilizing the Pole Texturing. So i hope you guys like it. It looks a bit darker for me than in the preview images when in game (i think because of screen gamma correction) but feel free to use and if one person uses this it makes my 6 hours a little bit more worth it.
:)

Looks great in the screenshots, but how exactly do you put it into galaxy forge? I googled, searched this forum, and got nothing.

I know this one might be tough, but I'd love either a "Digital Planet", sort of like the background of the Sanctuary Fortress in Metroid Prime 2 (sorry I couldn't find a picture online to do it justice) or a little bit like the dying Aperture Labs of portal 2, or a sort of fortress planet where the whole things looks like a sphere of armor planet metal (maybe like this minus the sky scrappers and towers of course).

Looking good, I might also like to use some of these. Keep up the good work.

You have to make a mod that adds the planet first. Simplest way would be to replace an existing planet. Go to your mod folder, make a folder called whatever you want, then in that folder make a folder called "Textures". Then take his textures, put it in the Textures folder, and rename them say "PlanetTerran01-cl" and "PlanetTerran01-da" accordingly. Now any Terran planet that would use that texture will use his. You can substitute any other planet texture name (save things like the moons and occupation planet of course).

Thanks, but I'm a bit new here, so I don't understand everything. I know where the mod folder is located and how to work the vanilla galaxy forge thanks to some other post. But how would I create a new planet type named earth in galaxy forge, since i don't want the game to randomly choose this texture when a planet is terran? I've been seeing a lot of posts from years ago saying that you need to create a new entity file to do this. I looked at the entitys in the gameinfo folder, but all were partially in hex. The poster said he used a program in the game files called ConvertData_(expansion).exe, so i went to ConvertData_Rebellion.exe, moved it into a new folder with a copy of the vanilla planetice.entity. Then I clicked on ConvertData_Rebellion.exe, which caused the command prompt to open with a black screen with a few words. But less than a second later, it disappears, so I couldn't even read the words. Most importantly of all, the entity file remained in its original state. Is this even the correct way to decode an .entity file?

And is there a link to the mod you referred to that can "add the planet"?

Now that I look at it more closely, some of these planets are from Maelstrom no? Where you the original creator?

There is not a mod that can standardize the process. You have to do all the work your self, hence why I just recommended replacing a texture if you're new. Its a bit late so I don't feel like writing a whole tutorial off the top of my head right now, but some searching should find you something. Without any details you must copy a planet entity, change its stats to what you want, make a Mesh folder and add his mesh file to it, and add the new planet the GalaxyScenarioDef file orbit body and planet type generation lists. You can also try downloading a mod that already adds new planets and see how it works. And if you really want to be pro you'll also need to make a set of pictures and icons for the HUD.

For the binary/hex thing, easiest thing is to download either the already converted file or a GUI tool that can run the Convert_Data for you. Harpo is a cool guy who has done both, look him up and you should find them.

Well I think a giant blue aquatic/pardise kind of planet would be cool thats about twice as big as a terran planet but still with plenty of land :). People could use it as kind of a special planet for mods and stuff then.

Hey GeoFan77 no Im not the creator of maelstrom however i have spoken to SOASE offering the origional Trinity Textures and rebllion ones if wanted. I origonally started just texturing replacing some of the extensive planet textures he offered as i felt they were not sharp enough.

Everything in Rebellion is from default textures and meshes. Ill soon be uploading a little tutorial with the cheat way of doing this in potoshop "the Polar Wrap". First Earth took 6 Hours. Second took 30 mins... Typical. Damn illuive Polar Coordinates tool!

Thanks for the comments but the true work has to go to this fella and his blog.

I've got a .psd template that can "convert" these textures to regular maps (vanilla textures style) in 30 secs :)

No that's awesome. I already have the Sins plus city planets but I think it will work for the sort of "Fortress" planet I wanted.

No worries that ones made from wall tiles and a sheet of aluminium so I have to be proud of that one. btw let me know if you want the spaceport removed. Easily Done.

One comment on the texture, I noticed that in game it rotated from west to east instead of east to west, so north america comes into the sun before europe instead of vice versa. It's a trivial mistake, but it would be nice if it were fixed.
