I know this is long but please understand that I am just trying to give as much info as I can.
2 days ago I emailed GameStop Support with the problem of not being able to play the expansions or update the original game due to error messages and not having a way to activate/register my game (Sins of a Solar Empire) I have looked on the forum and found that I am not the only one with this exact problem. Anyhow I get an error of "You have not yet entered a product code for this product. Registering the product is required to download updates. Please Register the product with the GameStop App and try again." (but now they say I have to do it within your website as you have since taken over the game, I will post their response at the bottom of this paragraph) when trying to update the Original Sins of a Solar Empire. And I get the error of "Could not run SDActivate.exe. Try running as Admin." (I am in high hopes that you can fix this one as well as I am really wanting to get this taken care of) when trying to play the expansions.
Here is the response we (a lot of people are getting this same error) got from them:
Hi everyone!
While the number of games on store shelves requiring and providing instruction for Stardock registration via Impulse is now quite small (go digital distribution!), there's a possibility some customers may still purchase one of these copies and be unable to register one or more of the following games with the new GameStop App:
- Sins of a Solar Empire - Trinity
- Galactic Civilizations II Dread Lords
- Galactic Civilizations II Ultimate Edition
- Demigod
- Other Stardock titles
Users who reinstall Windows or who otherwise need to reinstall their game from physical media may also run into this issue.
Since StarDock has long since taken over game registration for their own titles from GameStop (we were just passing that information on to them previously) the CD key/product registration functionality was removed from the new version of the GameStop App. Fortunately, we've worked with Stardock to make registering your game with them quick and easy.
If you have a new serial from a retail Stardock game box (Demigod, Galactic Civilizations II, Sins of a Solar Empire etc.), please visithttps://services.stardock.net/accounts/createaccount.aspx to register the game and sign up for product updates.
If you are having problems registering via the Stardock website, please contact [email protected] and include the serial and name of the product you are trying to register.
Cheers,
Jonathan
So now I have found where I can add serial numbers on the stardock site (only after doing a google search for it) and I cant cause it only lets you put a code in for SoaSE Trinity and I have the Original Box copy. I did purchase the Trinity expansion from Stardock website though. I don't know what side is to blame nor do I care I just want it fixed as it was working before I reformatted my computer and now its not letting me do anything.
I have taken the following steps to try and fix the errors. A couple of these steps were recommended in an email from GameStop Support staff via email yesterday...
I deleted my antivirus software to ensure it wasnt stopping the application.
I have now uninstalled all of the Sins of a solar empire including the expansions.
I have uninstalled the GameStop App
Cleared cache/cookies/temp files trash
restarted computer
re-installed GameStop app
re-installed (physical copy) of Sins of a solar empire. STILL cannot update it as I get the same error as before. "You have not yet entered a product code for this product. Registering the product is required to download updates. Please Register the product with the GameStop App and try again."
however there is not anywhere at all that I can find to register/activate the product. While hovering over the game name I get the following options (Update, Play, Archive, Open Folder, Uninstall) I can play the original game just fine but cannot get the update or play the expansions.
I then downloaded both of the expansions Diplomacy and Entrenchment (which are digital purchases through you guys) and I cannot play those as I am getting the same error as before of "Could not run SDActivate.exe. Try running as Admin."
I tried running the game as admin (original and both expansions) and got the same errors.
I even ran the GameStop App as Admin and still got the same errors.
Please let me know if you have any fixes.

Thank you.
