Rainmeter 2.3 Released

As you all know, Rainmeter is a very popular customization program. Many of the skins can record your notes, to-do lists, launch and control your fave apps… which can be arranged to your liking.

So… just thought I’d mention seeing the update/release notice on Neowin.net .

You can pick it up here: http://rainmeter.net/cms/

What’s changed? Read about it here: http://rainmeter.net/cms/Release23  but at first glance, it looks like lots of changes from 2.2.

Skins for Rainmeter can be found at:

  1. https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/rainmeter
  2. http://rainmeter.deviantart.com/ – beware skins not on the curated gallery as they might contain malware.
  3. http://www.customize.org/rainmeter/skins – I have no specific information as to malware.
  4. http://www.flickr.com/groups/lifehacker-desktop-showandtell/pool/ – Lifehacker’s Flikr for Rainmeter.
  5. Sharing your creations” board on the Rainmeter site:  This site is safe, and moderated. Were I searching for skins or simply wanting to see them in development, I’d definitely start here.

What would skinning be about without a screenshot?

Thanks for the post on the newest version of Rainmeter, Doc, I'd just like to add a few points...

- this version helps combat the malware at 'you-know-where'

- it has a Skinstaller included now which makes putting your skin in .rmskin format a breeze

- deviantART now only accepts .rmskin formatted skins to the main rainmeter gallery instead of zip or rar files

- our rainmeter group at dA http://rainmeter.deviantart.com/gallery/ checks each skin we accept to our gallery for malware, so it's quite safe

- Customize.org has a few new moderators that are extremely experienced with rainmeter and have cleaned out anything with malware and are actively moderating the site

I have tried to download this before and had the same problem. Now I could turn Bitdefender off but. Any other suggestions?

This is what I get when I try to download. Have never received this for anything else I have downloaded. Only time I have had this is on a couple web pages so I just leave them.

"STOP! Bitdefender blocked this web page.
The page you are trying to access contains malware."

Dave, this software is clean, I've been using it for about 2 years now, have downloaded every version, every beta and have had absolutely no problems. Rainmeter is on my desktop continuously along with Windowblinds, IconPackager, CursorFX and Tiles.

Dave, that's probably because of 'reputation' based stuff, splash from the 'you know where stuff'. Probably not much you can do about it, but you could write ti BiDefender support to ask them what you have to do to turn that off for Rainmeter. There's got to be a way to "white list" it.

karmat - was glad to post it. You, and Rainmeter boosters might try writing to BitDefender, Norton, et al to try to get the "community based" stuff changed. I just wouldn't count all that much on succeeding.

karmat and Doc thanks. I will just turn bitDefender off to download it.

Doc I think I will also write BitDefender and advise them. Also would like them to tell me what it thinks it's finding to block the site. Interested in what they have to say.

Very interesting. I tried to download from the mirror site and it downloaded fine using BitDefender.

They overheard us. Glad you succeeded, Dave. :)

I dl'd rainmeter without a problem. Maybe because I don't have bitdefender.

I've been using Rainmeter for more then a year now. It's a great customization and monitor app, and I can't image my life with out it now. Hurray for 2.3!
