Hope I don't get flamed.. but I need help

I have seen amazing work in here, and want to adjust my desktop and such. I am running Win2K pro, and have desktop architect installed. When I download any skins I don't get a file called .theme. I haven't a clue what to do with any of the files, and someone told me to just extract the file to my system32 folder. I tried that but nothing happened. Sorry for being such a new guy, but want to try to understand how this works. Can someone help me out? Thank you for the time.

oh god... don't extract the file to your system32 folder... bad idea. A Windowblinds skin can have 150 files in it.

Leave the file in the state you download it in. That's usually the best file format for the program to use. (program? what program?) ahh... glad you asked.

Every skin section here has a link to the software you need to run to use the skins in that section. It's in the titlebar of the skin. For example, if you download a Windowblinds skin, to use it you must download and install the program called "Windowblinds". The name Windowblinds in the skin's title on this site is an active link to the site where you can download the software. The only exceptions to this are Wallpapers (don't need any extra software) and WinXP Skins (they're actually Windowblinds skins).

Ok.. got the trial of WB, but now I have to get objectbar. I can only get the demop right now, and that wont let me adjust anything. After all I am a starving student, so no money to burn as of yet. Windowblinds seems a bit overwhelming to me, but I will toy around with it and see what happens. I did change a few things now, but everything is almost unreadable. just light colors and what not. So far the only thing I can change is my window frame, start button, and quick bar. For the rest I need the objectbar program, and others right?

Sorry if I ramble on... as you can see I am truly new to this. Thanks for the reply

The effect you get on your computer should be exactly what you see in the preview image for the skin. When you apply a Windowblinds skin it can change the backgrounds, colors etc. to match the skin.

You might need to tell WB to change those things by checking the boxes in "settings" in the Windowblinds configuration window. I can't remember what the default settings are.

Object bar works the same way, just load a downloaded skin and it should give you the same result as in the screenshot. The other cool thing is you can have it automatically make an OB skin from a Windowblinds skin that has the extra XP stuff included.

I think the evaluation version of WB won't skin the progress bars, scrollbars or use Smart Buttons. But it will change everything else... Have fun

Ok I got a new skin and everything seems to be working fine. Cept one thing.. I cant get my start menu changed. I am not sure what its called but when I hit the start button my normal everyday bland looking one is in there. Is there a program other than the shareware objectbar that I can download for free? Or do I have to pay for all these tools to change it?
