WinCustomize: Where do they come from?

Ever wonder where WinCustomize's traffic comes from?

Here's a graph of March's referral statistics:

Bookmarks are return visitors plus people who visit because of Stardock's programs.

Stardock and WindowBlids.net are direct links from those pages. Those referrals used to go to skinz.org before WinCustomize was launched so you can imagine the impact that probably had on skinz in those days.

Where in that chart are the people who type the URL directly? In the bookmark portion, I imagine.
I was reading an article recently, and they say that more surfers now type in the URL themself manually or use a bookmark to go to known sites as opposed to be refered by other sites or a search engine.
In 1999, around 30% of the people typed the URL or used a bookmark, compared to 55% in 2001. Apparently, it's because there are less and less novices on the web and more people know where they want to go now.

i keep WC in my bookmarks 24-7 so even when i go to format my hard drive i'll zip all my bookmarks and email them to myself so WC is always saved so your little graphics pie of were all the traffic comes from sounds about right i could be wrong.

All skin sites are in my bookmarks. But you can't track bookmarks (I think) bacause they have no referrer, so the bookmark label is actually "no referrer" then, meaning "not coming from another site", which includes typing in the url.

i wonder how many humorous/disturbing search requests result in wc popping up.. ala http://searchrequests.weblogs.com/

might be amusing to post some

[warning.. the url above contains some search requests from people who were looking, rather bluntly, for prurient material.. on the internet?! no... surely not...]

Bookmarks can mean many things:

1) Someone just typed the URL in
2) Someone used their favorites menu
3) Someone clicked on a link in a program

That's giong to always be your biggest chunk.

I keep WC in my favorites folder, so I hardly come here through other skin sites. It's usually one of the first three sites I visit when I get online.

Referrals from other sites do matter a lot as they determine future growth really.

WC is the first place I go when I get on my computer. I wonder if putting a favorite in the startup folder would work.....
