Is it just me??

I have noticed that certain skins seem to always be at the top of the pile (more so since the Gui Olympics) Just a tiny tweak here, a little change there and they are maintained on the top. Skins on steroids???

It is an issue. It is . . . discouraged. But really, it needs fixing. A simple "don't put this skin on the New Additions list" option would do - then people would have no excuse if they did make small updates and poked them to the top.

It would be nice if they would do this (greenreaper's idea)finally. There's been talk about this for a long time, but it seems nothing ever comes of it.

I have noticed that when you post a new skin (anything) that your skin name is added to the new additions list and your skin goes to the top of the catagory that it belongs to. Well when you update it, in addition to being added to the newest additions list it also puts your skin back on top of the catagory again. That is a big benifit. It keeps your skin alive. What if they were listed by inception date, no matter how many times it was updated. It would stay right where it originally was.

It's really an honor system. An update that fixes some major bugs really should go to the top so people that downloaded the skin can get the fixed version. Cosmetic updates are equally important to the skin author. But skins being updated purely to move them to the front of the list is unethical and rude. How do we fix it? or is it really not that big a deal?

The GUI Olympics has made for a lot of updating because in a lot of cases skins were rushed to get in on time...

I'm probably about to annoy some people with this. I'm revamping a good many of my old skins. Since I'm working on them at once, they'll get done about the same time, and re-uploaded about the same time.

They arguably need the updating, but I'd just as soon not have them pushed to the top of the queue. Unfortunately, not an option.

Bizarre... I just started a thread over on the GUI Olympics site which said a lot of what's just been said here.

Not that bizarre, grayhaze.... This is one of two topics that seems to get brought up often, the other being the skin ratings.

Yes, this has been discussed before. The idea behind it is that updated skins should be reannounced (so to speak). So we have used the Newest Additions Box to do this.

What might be a better solution is to have a Newest box and an Updated box. This way, it does not show up as a new skin, but they still receive a benefit of showing that their skin has been updated. Most likely the downloads will not be as high this way making it more equal.

T-Man>> I agree. Have a 'New Submissions' list and an 'Updated Submissions' list. However, I would also suggest putting some kind of time restriction on whether skins appear at the top of the updates list, whereby if a skin author submits their skin again within 7 days (or thereabouts) of the last update it isn't considered an update. This way, only major updates get announced, rather than minor updates which are just fixes to already implemented features.

I am 100% with you T-Man for the 2 boxes! It is a fair solution.

I agree with the two boxes too....one for new submissions, on for updates.

...great idea T-Man

Adding an "Updated" box is an excellent idea! I was thinking about what gillon said and realized that now it's a bigger problem than ever - in my opinion at least. Why? Because each time somebody updates a Windowblinds skin they usually get the top *3* spots - WindowBlinds, Win XP Skins, and GUI Olympics. That's a sure-fire way to get exposure!!
