"Peer" Ratings

* Whining Time * I normally don't put a whole lot of weight into what my skins are "rated", comments are fine for me, but for someone to rate one of my skins a "3" rather pisses me off, especially considering the fact that they didn't bother to leave any explanation or comment on the skin. My skin Alias was made with the sole intent of being easy on the eyes and extremely fast. Using Skinbench, I've tested it and it's faster than just about any skin ever made. I would like to think that my "peers" would take things like that into account when they "rate" skins. It's not as if this site is one where any joe blow can rate a skin, so this was done by someone who should know better, unless this person truly believes that this particular skin is worse than the hideously ugly first Wb skin I did a few months ago. * Whining time over * Thanks for listening.

David - Not to make things worse but wouldn't it have to have been rated a "1". If it was uploaded at "6" which I presume it was, to be knocked down to three would require a one vote. Hmmmm, troubling indeed for a very nice work. Seems as though it has bounced back to a "6"...

Bill, the initial 6 rating is removed as soon as the skin receives its first real rating.

I never cared for the rating system and I've never rated a skin. I just comment on the skin. The ratings are too definitive for something that is really subjective. Just because a skin is not suited to someone's tastes doesn't mean it's poor.

I bet someone just took a quick look at David's skin preview and said "grey and flat" without even trying it or even bother considering what David's trying to accomplish with the skin.

Howabout it you are going to rate it, then it should be mandatory that a comment is included? I suppose some might be uncomforable losing the anonymity of posting a rating in certain situations (such as there's only one comment and the skin has a rating other than the default 6).

Okay, I'm done ranting.

I agree with you David, about the ratings, I don't know why we still use them... a good comment is enough for every author, the bad ratings are having other reasons most of the times, if you know what I mean.

As an artist I would like to comment. When you publicize your work, you know it is subject to criticism. Most important thing is that you like your own work and that you'd be proud and happy about it. Creativity is about renewal, selfcriticism, seek for better and new ways. Take ski jumping for instance. Boklov introduced a new jumping style and got bad ratings. Now, everybody jumps like him....Take care JourneyMan and keep up your good work

How can one improve if all someone does is give you a poor rating but doesn't comment? You do not know if something is wrong with your skin or if they just didn't like your color scheme.

Lecrayon: this should explain about people's titles etc. https://www.wincustomize.com/about.asp

In addition, some people have a title but prefer not to show it. There is even one that hates it soo much that he has his own title: "Janitor".

Thank you for the link that explains the titles. I am happy just being a citizen

I know this will never happen here, but its worth a try

I have found many skins here with extremely LOW ratings "2" that does not deserve that kind of rating........

If you STARTED to "expose pupicly" like RATED BY_______ I don't think you would see such low and favortisim ratings..... But yes, that would solve the problem now, wouldn't it
