Bets on men's hockey, Canada vs. USA?

A-ha! Caught you there.

My question does NOT so much ask opinions on who will win, but how many of the average American public will continue saying "Canada Sucks" regardless of the result? Of course, the esteemed American readership of www.WinCustomize.com is a step above, so I will assume such generalizations do not apply here.

Let's say Canada wins. Reactions: "We gave them the gold." "We should just invade them." "Those miserable freeloaders. We defend their stupid igloo camps from the godless Communists and this is how they repay us." "Blame Canada." "Those damn Canadians and their egos. We keep putting them down like the piss-ants they are, but they never shut up."

Let's say Canada loses. Reactions: "Canada sucks." "We should just invade them." "They can't make a difference in war or in sports." "Blame Canada." "Gold is great, silver sucks."

You might think that the tone of this post is influenced by too many Canada-bashing websites and forums, and by that stupid piece of cinematic drivel that was South Park. And you'd be right.

First question: of course Canada will win, like the girls did.

As for the rest of your posts, quite objectively, I think there is more anti-american feelings in Canada and in the rest of the World, than there is anti-Canadian feelings anywhere, including in the USA.

Well if you would like to see some real Canadian humor in action:

Written by Canadians, for Canadians, about Canadians and the rest of us can enjoy it too.

Given that most Americans could care less about hockey and it's a religion in Canada, I'd say Canada will probably win.

Anything's possible. I'm sure the American men's and women's hockey teams, with their strong records, certainly take this event seriously and don't care whether the rest of their country dismisses their sport as frivolous.

Anyhow, it promises to be an interesting game. May the best team win!

Bill Sawyer: thanks for the funny Chilly Beach stuff.

Yeah, Frogboy, it's a little as if we were in the finals in basketball. Like anybody would give a hoop here.

Precisely. How the heck did the US make it to the finals in hockey to begin with? What's next? US soccer team?

I think the US deserve to be in the finals.

In terms of the world scene they are definetly one of the top 3 or 4 teams along with Canada and Russia.
After that comes a group slightly less powerful including Ckeck (sp, sorry) Sweden and Finland. Those 6 teams have been the best for the last 25 to 30 years.

Should be a very entertaining final today. This moment has been anticipated for a very long time in Canada. I'm not sure if there is really a sports equivilent in the US. This Gold (I hope) metal will become the most important sporting event in Canada in a generation (for the majority of Canadians).

I was rooting for Canada, because in a sense it's more their sport then ours, but then "The Great One" opened his great big mouth and blamed Canada's early lackluster performance on the American media's anti-Canada "propaganda".

Hockey is a religion here. Most of my office cleared out at 14:00 on Friday to watch the Canada-Belarus game, and that was one that we were pretty much guaranteed to win. Everyone I know will be watching the game today. How many Americans will? I don't know.

At any rate, it should be a good game, and hopefully the men will win Gold, just like the women did.

Just don't beat up on my Red Wings too much. We need them for the playoffs.

Or we could just mention that Australia just whipped South Africa's butt in the first Test over there....an innings and 360 runs...that's a serious drubbing...

What would really be disappointing is if the Detroit Hall of Fame Team fails to bring back the Cup.

davad, I know what you mean. I am Canadian and I couldn't believe it; but I don't know what the medias were saying down in the States, but here in Canada, it wasn't pretty. Canada's poor early performance was a shock for everybody here. A good thing they came back.

craeonics: obviously you didn't watch the game, huh? as you typed your post, Canada had beat the US by a score of 5-2 11 hours before.

Griffinme: can you believe there were 5 NY Rangers players on the ice in yesterday's games? quite amazing for a team that's still fighting for a spot in the playoffs.

Can you tell our kids learn to skate almost as soon as they can walk?
Of our total of 17 medals, 9 were won in speed skating, 2 in hockey and 1 in figure skating, which means 12 out of 17 medals were won on skates. Hehehe!

4 Wings were playing.

Makes you wonder about the Rangers coach.

With all the success of the crossover athletes I wonder when Nigera or some other cross country running powerhouse will start training some cross country skiers.

I am amazed at the reaction of the Russian goverment. They are crying about using NHL officials. Most of the Russian team plays in the NHL. Those players are extreamly successful. From what I saw the judges tried to be even handed. If anything they caused fits for the Americans since they weren't used to the differant rules. The faceoffs with line changes were troublesome in particular.

If the Russians had used the same energy in the first 2 periods against the U.S., that they have shown in their complaining; the score may have been different.

Wouldn't have changed the Gold medal outcome though.
