desktopX and keyboard shortcuts

i am new to desktopX, so this may be another silly question, but it is worth asking anyway

can i assign hotkey combinations to desktop objects and actions? currently on my home machine i am using one program for watching movies (media player), another for mp3 playback (coolplayer), and a third for hotkeys, one of which launches coolplayer.

with the appearance of SD player, i am looking to move towards fewer, more flexible, programs. especially since ASA only lets me define 8 hotkey slots for launching programs, all of which i have now used, so there is no more room

so far desktopX gives me the option of controling my movies and mp3's via the mouse, but can i configure desktopX to respond to hot keys?

specifically, can i specify a "global" hotkey that if not picked up by my current application will be picked up my desktopX?

i am looking at keys to start, pause and stop playback in SD player, and also keys that will "trigger objects to be launched" (so ctrl_alt_i loads IE).

scripts dont scare me in principle, so if DXscript is the way to go about this, then if anyone can offer any pointers that would be lovely.

feline, i'm awaiting lots and lots of days awaiting the shortcutkeys for desktopx. The only way i found is making a plugin, using some win32 library. I think is possible to make it, but i'm not a programer. With desktopx 1.1 there's the dxscript. I will learn scripting; when i'm more experienced with programming, i will release a unificated keyshortcutting for desktopx (if the desktopx programmers don't release). Unfortunatelly this will ocur with a lot of time! I'm not a programmer

perhaps if we pool our ignorance of scripting we will reach critical mass

i have just tried to make the sample java script example in the rc1 documentation work, and it wont. this is likely to take a while me thinks

i have just found the following on the DesktopX message board. however, since i have yet to find the mentioned plugin, i dont know if this means that this plugin will allow me to setup hotkey activation of DesktopX objects.

if you go to http://mapage.noos.fr/celticsoftware/ you can download this plugin. the manual (which is so big looking it is scaring me ) mentions hotkeys.

you have *got* to check out the screen shot of this thing in action in the about section of this site!

/me drools all over keyboard

BTW, Feline: SDPlayer allows you to assign a hotkey to the viewer. Right click the SDPlayer icon in the system tray. Select Options. Select Viewer. Select Hotkey. In time there will be an easier to manage hotkey configuration. At least it works

after that i found the newsgroup posting which told me where to find the documentation on setting up SDPlayer. got to love the autohide on the viewer!
