I can't skin!

Or create new DesktopX Objects.
Or make beautiful wallpapers.
Or... well, do anything that requires a talent for the visual arts.
*Sigh*

(koop gives his best pitiful look. He will never be part of "the scene." Not l337-enough.)

However, I do believe that I contribute to this community.
I post. I comment on skins. I am often moved to write thank you notes to authors whose work I find particuarly moving. If something is wrong, I try to fix it. In short, I do what I can to give back. I encourage everyone to do the same.

This is a pretty cool place. By and large, people here are talented (very talented, in my opinion) and caring and look out for each other. I feel priviledged to be a part of that. We have a very strong sense of community and I like that. (Reminds me of Greenwich Village in the Sixties. Doh! Gave away my age!)

Please note that other sites also have communities and scenes and whatever. It is just that this one suits me.

I wrote the other day that I am a secular humanist.(I used to be an atheist, but I don't have that strong a belief system. )I think that it is really important for us to look out for each other. That is what I find here.
There is a story about when William Faulkner, the noted writer, took a job in Hollywood as a screenwriter. One day this actor comes up to him and says: "You write? I read."

So, if you skin it, I will download it!

Larry: I refuse to believe that you couldn't come up with something artistic if you REALLY tried. I think you should make a wallpaper or something and upload it. After all, the rest of us didn't know if what we were making was any good until we threw it to the lions to see if they ate it!
Go on, get your head into photoshop and see what comes out!
I would love to see a Kuperman wallpaper.

you contribute quite a bit koop. maybe you could teach jafo to swim (his country is surrounded by water, might come in handy).

ahh yes, the Villiage in the sixties... now there was a 'community'. I think most of them moved up-state to the Catskills... another 'community'.

it's sink or skin!

Larry you pretend to be older than you are. How much of a Greenwich Village could such a young lad have taken in?

You're humanitarianism and tasteless sense of humor (odd combination) are wonderful contributions!

Maybe we should start a support group for non-skinners. I'm not a skinner, either. I have a fine art photography degree, and I do stained glass, but have never done any art on the computer. Too afraid that I would suck at it and be belittled by other non-skinners...

I can't skin either. Well, I skinned my knee falling down some stairs when I was a kid. Does that count?

So I guess I'm a skin groupie, if there is such a thing.

Well, I think everyone is talented at something and you may never know where your true talent may lie if you don't jump in and try. It certainly can't hurt (except for ego if you let it). And BoXXi's right about the lion bit.

Well one thing we do know, is that Larry is one of those right wing nuts. I can assure you of that...

If you can't skin, do what I do - Port! I have a couple things uploaded, but they are ports of excellent hoverdesk or litestep themes to desktopx.

You get to serve the community and people think you actually have talent!

Just get permission...

My point in all this is that Wincustomize offers a place for everyone. Depite the 12 Principals (sic) of the Scene, skinning is no longer the province of the skinners and hackers. It never really was, but that is a different issue.

At Wincustomize skinning is a community thing that attacts a diverse cross-section. Each of the almost one million visitors is capable of contributing in their own way. If we let them.

And we as a community will be better for each new member.

And, who knows? Maybe I'll learn to skin!
