Is there actually a way?..

You know WinXP? Is there actually any themes you can download for Windows XP (in the display properties bit...) wityh don't require a 3rd party program to install and manage them. I've looked everywhere and it seems to me Microsoft have made windows "skinnable", but they do not seem to have finished the job. There should be a theme format and manager in the display properties.
Any ideas? Or do you know of a way?

No, Microsft doesn't want people to make their own skins, so although it's possible to make skins (with either a resource editor or a third party program such as StyleBuilder), it's not possible to apply them without a third party application. XP will not allow skins that have not been digitaly signed by Microsoft, therefore you need a program that will hack that protection.

But, on a side note, XP's styling method is exactly the same as Windowblinds, and actually Windowblinds uses less resources to do it. Because the styling engine ships with XP doesn't make it better.

Ultimately you have to use a third party program if you want to add more.

The one WinCustomize supports is WindowBlinds. By installing WindowBlinds, your dispay properties dialog gains an "Add" and "Remove" button in the appearance area. Then you can downlad WindowBlinds skins (and WinXP skins which are just WB skins optimized for XP) and they'll show up in that dialog.

That's what I thought. But don't you think it's stupid of Microsoft to give Windows "skinnable" ability and them to take it away from us!

Not when it's got bugs in. For MS to make .msstyles a supported format would have meant delaying the release of XP, because there simply were too many problems with it. Remember WB took a lot of time to get to version 3, and even now it has problems with some programs. MS has a lot more programmers, but some things just don't scale well, and compatability is their highest priority.
