MadIce - I am him. I wrote WBamp, DXPlayer and KLPlayer. And I also wrote ObjectMedia.
/me considers bowing before a master of his art

on reflection, how about i let you help me spank JavaBean for showing off again instead? *giggles*
MadIce - The complexity of writing a DX/OB plugin depends on what you want to write.
/me considers not having this discussion here
then again, it will help raise the social standing of this thread, by showing that we can discuss topics besides chocolate, tickles, and turning programmers into a hunger laser
my initial plan is to have a plugin that simply displays and updates a simple string of text
MadIce - A good knowledge of the Windows API helps.
i was hoping you weren't going to say that

since plan A failed, i am hoping that Qt (a wrapper around quite a lot of windows API's) will handle that well enough for me.
MadIce - Writing stable plugins seems to be a problem for a lot of plugin authors. Debugging a plugin is very, very hard. On a scale of 1 to 10, I think writing a plugin is 7 or higher.
/me considers pointing out that writing stable programs seems to be very hard

the things seem to find the most devious ways of going wrong!
MadIce - Getting help when writing a plugin can be hard too. Not many coders have written a plugin. So there is no "community" of plugin writers (yet) and coders are often busy creatures and therefore do not have much time on their hands.
MadIce - There is a C header file and there is a document available describing the plugin interface. You can contact Stardock if you want to get those.
i sort of noticed the lack of community, but i had hoped i was looking in the wrong place. i found the stardock DX page with the plugin .h and doc file on it, and it had a link to a couple of news groups.
after an initial glance at the newsgroups, they don't seem all that full of plugin authors

i did see your name around a lot which was reassuring
i was to tired last night to look at the doc and .h, but i got the impression it expected you to know something about windows programming.
ah well, not knowing anything about what i am doing when i start is normal

it will make the accomplishment when i get it to work all the greater!
/me finds being an egomaniac a great help at times like this
MadIce kicks his compiler and runs off to buy some more chocolade slagroom vla...
/me wonders what would happen if some naughty individual were to strip GM naked, cover her in lots of chocolate slagroom vla, and leave her lying around where MadIce is bound to find her?
/me feels an experiment coming on
now, how to keep fuzzy off the chocolate long enough for MadIce to reappear...
