Elfkura - BTW people, I'll probably start MCM part 2 sometime.. This thread is getting to be a tad... long
Elf, don't you dare!!! *hurt, angry, upset expression*
IF the admins have a valid technical reason for stopping this thread, and starting over, then that is one thing. however, short of that, i see NO reason at all to stop this thread.
remember, you started it, and i am quite happy to credit you with that.
however, i think it is fair to say i am the one who has keep it alive for the last 12 months. this has become my home away from home.
did you ever see the "problems with object bar" thread started by starone? that was the first thread on this site to pass 100 posts.
/me remembers i sweated blood trying to drag people into that thread
starone and i were basically the only posters to that thread. however, the board didn't have pages back them, so we started a new thread for speed and ease. the new thread just never took off, and the whole issue fizzled out.
it was many months before we finally returned to the problem (why WB smart buttons don't work on some machines) and i finally found the reason.
my point is, that by starting over, you run a very serious risk of loosing the magic, history and tradition that makes this place what it is.
this thread has long since evolved past simply being a marathon.
if you are concerned about being associated with this lovely monster of a thread, i am quite happy to take over un-official stewardship of this thread. T-Man has the technology to rename the thread to make this "official".
i only suggest this as an emergency measure, since that is preferable to having it closed if you want to move on.
with reference to GM's point about refreshing it, if you groc the thread as a whole, just look at some of the topics we have touched on in our time?
/me fondly remembers the physics lesson on how to make a hunger laser
* what about the discussion with Doreen about the ideal bra? complete with illustrative links?
at a more metaphysical level, the thing that makes a community out of a group of people is a shared sense of tradition, and a common point of reference.
in the last 12 months, this place has developed its own landscape and language. i created the initial chocolate planet in broad brush strokes. but it is a community world, a world for ALL of us!
/me points out OC's tree house as a perfect example of what i mean
this world is still at the early stages of development. with time i hope that more people will brave the size of the thread, and find that we are a kind, caring and friendly bunch here.
this is created as a haven of kindless, love, chocolate, *HUGS* and friendship. sometimes the world outside is a harsh and unfriendly place. /me offers up the chocolate planet as a constant point of reference in a world gone mad
while i am quite aware of the theory that i am mad, that actually strengthens my case. after all, as it was so wisely once noted "if it takes a madman to do the job, then hire a madman".
have you ever watched any of the "competing" threads? getting a thread upto 500 posts is easy these days. but beyond that? that is hard
the only recent competitor thread we have had for size was aafuss's thread about apple, and that died a death.
if you take a longer viewpoint, then the imitators are just that, imitators. as for a lack of originality, this thread has plenty of originality!
/me wonders if there are any other threads on any skinning sites that contain instructions for making a hunger laser
actually, this reminds me, i never did get around to doing physics in action post number 2.
Elf, i do hope you will reconsider this bizarre idea of yours.
