Work? Only managed 4hrs today. Had to come home due to feeling grotty. Gaaargh! Serves me right for having trifle for tea yesterday - must have got a bad one.

last week I spent everyday looking for a job as if it were my job. So many on-line applications, phone calls, e-mails, on-site queries, etc..... nada, zip, nothing...

sigh...

My 44 year old brother tried to get a job as a temp postal carrier during the Christmas season...They had slots available when he went in and was turned down. It was just a temp/part-time job...resume shouldn't have mattered. He's an MBA in international finance, career, though, has been in the development of automated systems software. He's worked for major companies in management positions and even he can't get a stupid temp job with the Post Office. This is so nuts...I couldn't even get a job with Wal-Mart as a part-time temp during Christmas. I have been going around the neighborhood doing odd jobs/handyman kinds of things, but I'm at my wits end. I don't know what to do anymore.

Feline asked earlier what "Keyboard LaunchPad" is. Well, it is basically this app that allows you to assign hot keys to all sorts of stuff. And you can even assign it to a group. Like you could assign Tab+W to launch the WC browser, Mirc and a compiler all at the same time. Or assign shift+E to launch internet explorer, or even a specific URL. It's pretty powerful and really cool

werewolf, unfortunately, you are not alone. There are so many people out of work right now, it's sad. What are your qualifications? What type of job do you want? I hope that something turns up soon for you!

I can't understand why you can't get a job werewolf. I've known you for sometime now and see you as someone of good character. That should be a prime requirement for any employer and I'm sure someone will see that soon.

There are days when this planet depresses me so much... Luckily I have the chocolate planet to come to instead.

O', Wolf.. My mom is getting terminated here soon because they are moving her prosition to another state. Same with like 6 other areas. I know alot of people have have lost their jobs and can't get one because there seems not to be any. The only jobs are in the Military right now.

awwwww... Wolfie. I know it's hard. Here are some things that I did:

I made a professional resume and an 'industrial' one. You might apply for some jobs you are 'overqualified' for, what happens when the personnel departments sort their incoming resumes they sort out ones with higher education. Their reasoning is that people won't stay long (tolerate a bunch of nonsense) if they are over qualified... they will soon leave. Fact is, people leave anyway. So for those jobs just don't mention your education.

If you are a vet, you can use va benefits to go back to school... sometimes there is a living allowance. These are benifits you have earned.

State employment agencies might be able to offer much the same.

A lot of times a job from temp agencies can grow into something...

Temp agencies can be helpful. That is how my Mom found her last job.

I agree with GM, you may want to tone down your resume for certain jobs. I'm sure, if you are like me, any job would be better than no job. You are probably too over qualified for some of the jobs.

I have done all that...Thanks GM and KG, specially toning down the resume when needed. Yes, any job would do atm. Might be kinda nice if Home Depot would hire me...nice physical job, I know all about almost everything in there and how to use it...but, sadly, they don't want me Boo Hoo

Wolfie, if they don't want you once, just keep trying. Maybe the first and second (or however many) times they didn't want you was because the boss wanted them to want his kid.

Also some jobs have to go through hoops when they post. It is in their protocol that they have to advertise (and all the time they have the post effectively filled). It is an equal opportunity thing. /me discovered it is a way around the EO.... very hard to prove something you know to be true in this case.

Also, and it may feel hard to do, you might see if you could talk to a human there and see what their reason is. The more that you go in and talk, put a human face and voice to the application, the more they will respond to you as a human being /me points out that it may be good to change into a human before you do that.

Oh, and one more thing. There are lots and lots of incentives out there now for small business opportunities. You can get lots of loans and grants (better, you don't have to repay them) you can find for start-up. If you did something like that, and were successful, you would also have something to offer your kids for work too.

Again, VA would have some, state employment has others. I am sure there are more, you just have to find them.

I understand what you are saying. Some of these jobs, I've been back several times. I'm going to keep at it.
