Can't get ".logonXP" files to work...

I installed LogonStudio. I downloaded a couple of adni's ".logonXP" files from WC. Simply "double-clicking" on the files doesn't seem to do anything. I've tried other methods too, such as "load" and then "appl" in LogonStudio. The logons never show up in the list of "Available Logons". The only thing I've managed to do, after all of this, is to reset my logon to the default XP logon...I had been using the "other guy's" logon manager...without ever hitting that "restore default logon" button. What could be the problem? Any ideas anyone?

Try hitting "Refresh List", your new logons should then appear, and then you can highlight it and hit "Apply".
Works for me!!

Thanks guys, but the solution (for me, at least) was to rename the ".logonXP" files to ".zip" and then extract the files with WinZip. Weird, huh?

Indeed. We will definitely want to look at that.

I dunno. Maybe the author created WinZip archives initially and then changed the ".zip" extensions to ".logonXP" for some reason??? It sure looks that way...and the fact that WinZip treated it *exactly* like a common zip archive seems to agree with that hypothesis. Just a thought...

No, I'm pretty sure BoXXi exported it the correct way.

Did I say BoXXi? I meant to say ADNI! Doh! Sorry guys!

TrueSef -> Suggestion: Create a new folder below the LogonStudio folder. Give it the same name as the the title of the .logonXP file. Extract the files into that new folder. If you haven't changed the default "logons path" in LogonStudio, it'll show up in the "available logons" list and you can then "apply" it. Hope that helps.

[Note: the logon screen is not available if your machine is joined to a domain.]

My question is... who the %#$! isn't joined to a domain?
I hope to Jebus this is an issue that can be worked around, otherwise NO cable internet people will be able to use it.
Kinda silly. So my actual question is: Why?!

The only answer to all those questions about the .logonXP files is that the Logon Studio it is still a beta version... so we must have some patience

HELP for the Logon files:

You need the Logon Studio for the files .logonXP.
There is a link in the begining of the page in the Logons section, from where you can download the latest version of Logon Studio (it is free!).

Double click the .logonxp file. This should automatically open the LogonStudio program and your new logon screen will be in the list. Highlight it, (if it isn't already highlighted) and click apply.
If your new logon is NOT listed, hit "Refresh List" (which is immediately below the list) and hit "OK".

If it still doesn't work after following these instructions, try to rename the file from .logonXP to .zip , then unzip it and go to Program Files->Wincustomize->Logon Studio and put manualy the folder you have unziped, in to Logon Studio. Then, open the LogonStudio.exe and select the logon and click "OK".

I hope this instructions will help you

I had the same problem here with the newest beta. I had to download the prior beta which seems to work fine. With the newest one all that would happen is that my computer would switch to the old Windows2000 type logon. The logon screens would show up in the program but would not work properly. Perhaps the culprit is something specific to the newest beta.

Have you checked out my thread entitled "This is how you use LogonStudio"? And I have no idea why you have got .gif's in your files, LogonStudio doesn't use .gif's!!

HI there,
I have logon studio installed, the problem seems to be if you dont have the " Logon Studio Document" (its the one that looks like a paper with a yellow x on it). You cant load it into the files. All you get is a folder and a bunch of jpg files. WTF?

My solution to not being able to use downloaded logon screen skins was this:

I had to find and copy the odzip.dll file to my C:\Program Files\WinCustomize\LogonStudio directory. Before I did this all I would get was an error message that said "Odzip library failed to load" or something like that. Now it runs like a champ.
