help with hidden until mouse over

Hi I'm very new at desktop X, and was wondering if there is a way to make a layer or whatever I have to make it to be hidden until a mouse over. Like the old windows taskbar. If anyone knows also how to make sure the window size of an app adjust with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

i'm guessing here....but....can you make the mouseout image fully transparent (eg-transparent .gif), then have your mouseover as the image you want to show?

Here's what I do with mine. I have three text links on my desktop that take me to my three webpages I look after. The states I have set are Mouse Away and Mouse Over. For Mouse Away I just have Alpha-Blending set a Uniform 0% and for Mouse Over Alpha-Blending is set to none. It would also work this way for graphic images as well (as I have a bunch of these at 50% and 100%)
