Intellectual property laws out of control

My dual life combines once in awhile. Much of my time is spent in an alternative universe known as the PC game industry.

One of the things I do is write articles for the various game mags. We've been discussing on the Stardock news servers how few people really understand how the US legal system actually works as opposed to how the law is designed.

If you're interested, I've written an article that talks about intellectual property laws and how they tend to function in the real world along with some of my personal experience involved in lawsuits over the years (lots of pain).

I don't think they're out of control, but that they're being abused. Whatever happened to judges ruling by both law _and_ reason?

hahahahahahahaha

Tell me another story, grandpa - I ain't sleepy yet...

It's the golden rule, the one with the gold makes the rules.

The courts aren't so much the problem as the expensive legal costs (and time) involved. The "discovery" phase can be ridiculous for instance in what they can make you do.

Sometimes the little guy can strike back (as McDonalds learned in the UK when they tried to sue for libel and those they sued had nothing better to do but research mountains of embarassing evidence).
