Moderation of DX Submissions

The wallpaper section of this site is heavily moderated. This is due to the sheer number of wallpapers submitted, and if they were all allowed in, it would become quite hard to navigate the mountains of wallpapers for the occasional gem.

It is my feeling that lately the DesktopX section is undergoing the same problem. There seems to be an endless stream of complete themes, massively outnumbering the objects. It is my opinion that most DX themes aren't particularly useful without a huge amount of work. This is due to the fact that most people don't have the same software installed, of which the programs deserving of desktop icon real estate will be even more largely varied, on top of this, people run on a huge range of resolutions, and many DX themes don't have resolution independance. What this effectively means is that for people to go through the DesktopX section and find something useful, takes a very long time due to the huge amount of filler (Well in excess of a thounsand submissions to this section, and constantly rising). I know that there is already subcategorization of this section, but it's rapidly becoming less and less sufficient. It is my feeling that this section would benefit from the same strict moderation that goes on in the wallpapers section.

Just my thoughts.

But you must remember that lots of people don't mind fiddling around with a theme to configure it for their system, especially if the theme has a particular look that they like. I used to spend hours changing Litestep themes to suit my needs, and it's a lot easier to change things in DX. In many of my themes, the shortcuts tend to be text based so that they can easily be changed or removed, and I usually try to include many popular apps that most people would have.
Personally, I don't like it when people upload a "theme" that just consists of a wallpaper and everyone elses objects. To me that is not a true theme. However, we don't really want to moderate the DX section at this time.
Anyway, I used to love trawling through hundreds of Litestep themes looking for something exciting, and I still like to do that in the sections here.
Also AJ, if you want gems, just click on my name...*cough*...lol...

You seem to have hit my point on the head while missing it. You are correct, *some* themes are good. I remember that Sputnik was what inspired me to first try DX, and then I spent several hours configuring it, redoing graphics, moving stuff around etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there seems to be a lot of "themes" there that are simply wallpapers with other peoples' objects on them.
