Can we get some background on what else is going on?  Is this new?  Is this out of the blue?  After a reinstall?  An initial install?  Installed a while back, and just now having issues?  Made any system changes recently?

You know the drill.

Three days ago it was working fine. I had been using Recoil DX just fine.

Changes:

I installed some MyColors themes, I installed Sound Packager, updated to the latest WindowBlinds that's it.

Oh, and I installed XP into my triple boot.

Nothing else going on, everything else works as it should. SFC scannow found some problems it couldn't fix but they seem unrelated.

Uninstalled and reinstalled a few times. Tried a different version. Still no love.

OK, I thought I'd help you guys out. I know how busy you are.

I restored an Acronis backup and added XP back into the MBR with EasyBCD. All is well and DX is working again.

Dunno what happened.

My gut says this is part of it.  Not saying DX 3.96 being a beta still with bugs wasn't a contributing factor, but if your SFC scans are unable to fix something, that's definitely in the 'bad things' column.

Absolutely. I'd recommend doing a chkdsk /f /r , Jim. There may be bad sectors, etc.

Yes, and the fact that DX 3.96 works fine on 7, and did work fine on Vista points there too. Thanks for looking.
