Problems with downloads

Hello:

I'm not quite sure if this is a problem with WinCustomize, WindowBlinds 3.x, Windows XP or a combination of some or all of the above.

Here goes;

Prior to the latest (ODNT) download of WB, I was able to simply click on a WB skin here at WinCustomize and it would download and automatically install itself. It would then appear in my list of available skins under the "Appearance" tab in Properties.

Now, when I click on a skin file, it downloads (the progress bare moves along as normal) but it does not install. In fact, afterwards I'm not even able to find the file anywhere on my hdd using "Search".

At this point the only workaround I've been able to do is to right-click the file and "Save As" to a file on my hdd and then go to properties/appearance and manually add the skin to the list using the "Add" button.

Any thoughts?

Greatly appreciated.

motion...I generally DL by right-clicking, preferring to know what and where the new file is, rather than relying on the OS to 'correctly' stick it where it's supposed to go...

It isn't all that bad a habit to get into, because that way you can keep an 'uninstalled' skin in archive...

Hi Jafo!

Of course you are definately right. It is best to save it to a folder so that you have it in case you need to re-install. In fact, for all skins that I decide I want to keep I have always done this.

Really, I was just wondering why it had always done the download and installation automatically and then just stopped and now requires that I right-click and save it to disk before installing it.

Anyway, as I said, I totally agree with you that saving the file is the smart thing to do regardless. So I'll just get in the habit of doing that. It really is only one extra step.

Thanks very much your input Jafo.

motion...I think it is actually a quirk of IE6....[that's in XP].
I only first had this problem after installing '6'.
I have Opera too....and that's fine in XP....
