What's the deal with WB3 and WB2 skins?

I checked out Deskmod today and they have a seperate section for WindowBlinds 2 skins? What's the deal with that? Why did they do that? Do they know something we don't?

Pretty much all the skin sites are doing that now. The WinXP Skin section here is for WB3, the regular Windowblinds section has skins that do not have the ability to skin the XP taskbar and start menu panel a la WB3. deviantART has done the same thing.

They really shouldn't be doing that really. There is no seperate WinXP skins section here, it is just a custom filter. When someone uploads a WindowBlinds skin, it asks if it has XP optimizations and if so, it gets added to the WinXP section.

There is no such thing as a WindowBlinds 3 skin. The skins mostly use UIS2 which is used by WB2 and WB3.

Froggy:

I don't doubt that it's just a filter to seperate WB Skinz for XP but, from the outsite it looks like two different sections here also. for example If I go to the WB section and search for "TasT" I don't get the skins that I have in the WinXP section, I only get the ones in the regular WB section.

I do though agree with you the other sites should be callin the sections WBXP Skinz or something of the sort instead of WB3 skinz.....

Unless there is some kind of filter or a flag in the description for a skin, I think it's a good idea to have a seperate section. I know that you can use the XP taskbar/start panel on any skin, but I'd still rather have a fully unified WB skin that skins everything. Thus, I really want to know which skins are optimized for XP before I bother downloading them.

One thing to remember is that you can use any XP start bar (appearance->advanced->XP Startbar).

Our issue is that it implies that there is somehow a new skin format or something. It would be like having Wallpapers called "Windows 95 wallpaper" "Windows NT wallpapers". Wallpaper is wallpaper, skins are skins.
