4-5 skins for Trillian?!?!
Phantom, repeat after me:
There are almost 100 skins for Trillian...

I would like to see a Trillian section as well. Though we would like to talk to the developers of it and work out some sort of promotion to get it rolling.

Starting in January, we hope to begin adding a bunch of new sections with one caveat - only roughly 20 will be displayed on the left (at first 20 that we pick, eventually 20 that the users pick) and the rest would be accessed by clicking on the Library header or mabye an "Index" link - just have to figure out the UI for that.

Then we can start adding more sections without it becoming an overwhelming mess on the left.

Frogboy, that sounds great!!
But this leaves the big question: Do WinCusto have "enough bandwidth" to handle the hugh amounts of visits that surely will be (sledge)hammering this site then?!

btw: 8 skins: http://www.skinbase.org

personally, brad, i think deviantART and skinbase are doing a fine job of hosting Trillian skins. until skinning Trillian becomes as mainstream as skinning WindowBlinds or NextSTART, etc..., I think you should not consider adding it. after all, what would the point be, other than to pull more traffic to a site that you already say gets too much traffic?

That has always been our argument of not adding sections but we keep getting beat up on not having sections.

we continue to get beat up for reasons that folks like to beat deviantART up for but that does not mean we allow people to dictate how we run the site. if there truly is a bandwidth issue, which there must be because from my end the site is as slow as deviantART was prior to solving our bandwidth issues, then adding new sections that will surely make the site more popular will serve to do nothing other than compound an already intense issue.

my $0.02: leave the new sections out until you solve more important problems such as server speed, page processing and bandwidth issues.

course, though, i can always think up a neat conspiracy theory if you'd like brad?

we are supposed to have one, yes, but when you're the "king of the hill" like stardock then you can do anything. (no harm meant with said statement)

I wish more people "knew what was what" like Jark does.

We're doing okay on bandwidth now that we upped it (though we still have to have a way to get the site to pay for itself). Though the increased bandwidth came at a cost, Stardock jetisoned its own skin library (the last vestiges of the old republic have been swept away).

On the one hand, we don't want to take traffic away from our friends (particularly LOS, DA, and SkinBase) but on the other hand, we are constantly being accused of being a "Stardock tool" because we don't support that many apps.

Any suggestions?

well, the point is for WC to support the popular applications. trillian is, by far, not anywhere as near as popular as the applications that you currently hold.

i would suggest that you just run the site as is and allow those few folks to continue to whine about stardock being a "tool." if they do not want to take the time to understand the situation then, realistically, do you think that by adding 2 or 3 more sections will change their minds?

personally, i believe that WC is doing fine just the way it is.

i don't care either way. but it sure would take some of the ammunition away from the likes of shoggot. it would be poetic justice if skinz became even more obscure because wc did what he said it should do.
