need help with WB plugin's

i have been working with starone to try and trace down a problem with smartbars on her new WB3 skin, see the "Help with Object Bar" thread for the gory details.
i am trying to use plugin dll's with WB directly, to test things, but when i directly call the quickl.wbp dll from WB 2.21b, it doesnt work, and when i call it directly from WB 3 (a per-application skin on notepad), notepad crashes big time.
so, i think we need some help on what is going on with the dll's.
also, since it is nearly christmas, it is only fare to spread the confusion around a bit
