Please help me out!

I’m a real admirer and frequent surfer of WinCustomize. Unfortunately, I lack the skills to create, so I try to contribute by telling everyone I know about the site. I’m a graduate student in Oregon studying arts management. One day I hope to run my own gallery or a museum. When I finally get to this position, one thing I really want to do is help convince the art world that art like yours/in your community needs to be taken seriously. I’ve got a great professor that’s letting me do a major project on WinCustomize and similar communities, but I need some interviews! Anyone want to answer my questions? It will take less than 10 minutes, promise, and I’d REALLY appreciate it and would be more than happy to give you a copy of my paper when I’m done or talk to you about some of my findings. Just email it me at [email protected]. Thanks! Feel free to send me links of your work, desktops, etc. I need some visuals for my presentation.

Art and Society
Fall 2001
Digital Expressions
Final Project Questionnaire

1. Disregarding for a moment the categories set up on this site, if you were telling someone about the site as a whole, what kind of art would you say it contained? Could you use just one term? Is there a difference between design pieces and art pieces?

2. If you are an artist on the site, do you have any formal training in design, art, or computers? If so, what?

3. If you were to print out a copy of your desktop right now, frame it and hang it up in an art gallery, would it look different? If so, how would it change?

4. As an artist, or a member of the digital art community have you or do you know of anyone who has been approached by an art gallery or museum to have their work shown? If so, what was that experience like? Did it change the way you thought about your/their art?

5. If everyone started charging viewing or downloading fees for their pieces, how would they change for you (besides maybe not being able to afford them!)? Would you change what you called it?

6. If you could place 5 pieces found on this site in a museum or gallery, which ones would they be? Would you want them to be shown on a monitor, or printed out and hung on the wall?

If you have completed and sent me answers to all the questions by Sunday Nov. 25th, you are now one of my best friends and I will direct all of my classmates and professors to your web sites or art works and include you in my presentation and promise to remember you when I’m making the “big $$”. THANK YOU!

hahaha... I hope you make it to the "big$$" Should be an interesting project and it's about time the digital world got taken seriously. I'm in Portland so I'll respond to your questions...

They teach art management eh? wish I'd studied that... managing my art has always been my bigest problem...

1. Interface graphics.

2. Architecture R.M.I.T. Melbourne Australia, 1972

3. It is a very drab grey LiteSTEP shell and wall.

4. Yes. No.

5. No change. Some people already do charge, and since their work is both theirs to do with as they wish, and worth it, I see no problem at all.

6. Choosing 5 is difficult, as there are so many worthy ones. [though virtually anything by Nuvem and treetog would be high on the list]. The Pixtudio suite is one that springs to mind, as is Lost Souls.
Both forms of reproduction would be good.

Hope that helps a wee bit....
