1. How do you convert a gif, png, bmp, etc. to a desktopx readable object?

2. What are the rules about using other people's objects and icons in different themes? I don't want to step on any toes.

1. I have no idea, however, I can answer question #2

2. Use at will as long as you don't distribute it (as in: upload it). As soon as you want to make a theme using other people's objects and want to distribute it, ask permission first and give credit. Otherwise you'd risk end up being called a ripper and all kinds of nasty things would happen.

You shouldn't have to convert .bmp's or png's, DesktopX can use both formats. However, if I remember rightly, it won't display .gif,s.
If you give a more detailed explanation of what you are trying to achieve, it will be easier to help you:)

Thanks for the info Here's a little more detail of what i'm trying to do.

I found some gif animations on the web and i want to add them into my theme. when i go to import object and hit browse, it will only allow browsing for .dx objects. I did open some into paintshoppro and saved them as bmp, but the "import object" still won't read them. (and yes, i really did remember to browse the directory that they are in. )
