What Icons Are You Working On?

What Icons Are You Working On?

February 2012

About six years ago, Phoenixheart started a thread titled 'Rare Icon Request' which got 1907 hits in four years. I cut my teeth on Photoshop doing requests in that thread as did a few other skinners. I lost count of the icons I did. I also lost count of the Iconpackages I started or OD packs I started because of ideas I got from that thread.

Anyway.....there are a lot of great artists out here making icons for all kinds of things. So, what have you got going on with icons? Dazzle us. I know I would love to see. As I plug through my first windowblind (One Piece At A Time -threads) we have skinners making other things to go with it and someone out there is working on some icons as well.

What are you working on? Or are you a first timer looking for tips? Post here!

The black background is an indication that it is being saved as a .BMP image. PNG images have an inherently transparent background. Maybe double check to see what ID is saving it as?
End of AceMatrix's quote

No, I am saving from Photoshop as a transparent PNG and it shows transparent in icon developer but when I save the icon it saves with a black background. I can open the same png in Photoshop and save as an icon and the background is transparent. #:(

Try this Frankief :  When Icon Developer opens to the screen where you set all your format sizes , click on the button in the lower left corner that says "Alpha Channel"   --- there you will see what you have your background set as. it should be set to transparent by default, but you never know, it may have gotten changed inadvertantly.

It is set to transparent, but it still is saving the PNG as an Ico with a black background. I am lost. It shows with the transparent checkerboard but saves  with a black background.x_x

do any of the other icons on your desktop have a black background around them ?

I used to have that problem with an image viewer. Always did it save a .png with a black background. I got rid of the image viewer. It was irfanview. I use Xnview now. Relevance ...... ?

I am trying and can't even duplicate this on purpose.

Exactly how are you saving it in Photoshop? I have tried multiple variations/settings in png format to see if I can duplicate your issue but have yet to do it. Importing the image into ID is pretty straight forward so I'm stuck thinking it's how you're saving it in Photoshop.

Derps of a feather.....

I also tried every single variation I could to reproduce the issue that Frankief is having , and I couldn't. It has to be something to do with how it is being saved I'm sure. I haven't found an image yet that I could not manipulate to make it do what I want , with the exception of some resizing adjustment issues I've had that vary across different software platforms, but other than that, this one has got me stumped.            -- Ace ---

Well, if you're looking (or anyone is looking) for 3D software, you may want to check this out. Good until 2/29/2012. The only catch is that you have to be a subscriber or sign up for their newsletter.

Really?

And continuing to fluff off?

Okay. think I figured it out! I saved the PNG without merging my layers. As soon as I saved as PNG with merged layers, I got the transparent background. I appreciate all of the input and now have a new avenue to explore! <3

And that's putting it nicely. ;)

Yup. Had to pause the download. Then when I resumed it ...... the download could not be saved. Could not read the source file. So ...... trying again. I got six more chances after this one if it doesn't work. If I can't get it by then I'm gonna hang up my dl finger.

Got it on the second try, though.
