You need to crack a skin open and see what the code looks like. Its based on xml and javascript. Rename the .wmz to .zip and look at the files inside(1 .wms, 1 .js and images). The .wms (xml) and .js (javascript duh ) can be edited in notepad or any other editor(I use Homesite cause when i click preview it launches the skin). You can test the skin by running the .wms. When its finished zip the files including the .wms, the .js and the images. Rename the .zip to .wmz. voila!

For advice on Windows Media Player skinning, I would go to The Skins Factory. They have composed some the most beautiful. You can visit their site at http://www.theskinsfactory.com or contact Jeff at [email protected]
They should be able to help.
It sounds as though we could all use a proggie to make the skinning more friendly. Might have to check if Microsoft has an SDK for it.

Yes, there is s SDK for it. But all it is basically is a big Help file. No GUI.
A few people here can skin WMP so if you have specific questions, you can ask here, or you can even go in the Microsoft WMP newsgroup. That's where I went when I first was learning it. People are quite helpful.

Oh, and a GUI interface would almost be impossible to do, since you can do anything with WMP. I guess one could include a few pre-programmed Jscript effects, some sort of a Dreamweaver for WMP, but in any acount, it would be quite a big program to make. Probably as big a program as Dreamweaver is, or bigger...

I don't forsee a GUI for skinning Windows Media PLayer ever, since each one is a hand-coded process. You can take snippets of code here and there. Feel free to open some of ours up and peek around. If you do take our code at least put a nod in our direction hehe.
