Setting the Icons for explorer.exe. Like the file folder, for example.

I have been able to change the icons for system folders manualy by going through the register. I know the icon packager works fine, but I would like to know how it does it. I am sure this is information that I could find out by searching, but I am hoping one of y'all would tell me. Thanks

I did not shape the question well, what I would like to know is how to change the explorer.exe icons, other than system folders and without the use of icon packager.

Why the questoin? Because you want a free solution or because you want to do it without the help of a software?
If it's because of the money issue, there is IconPhile, that is just as good as IconPackager, and it's free: http://www.virtualplastic.net/scrow/iphile.html

Thanks for the link. Money may be an issue considering that I believe it is probably a simple os solution and open to public. I would find the answer eventually as the writers of icon package also found the answer. But, with the link you gave me my search can be postponed for a time.

If I may add, sometimes a software is only as good as the support it gets. It may be true to the Mac/Windows reality (the Mac OS may be as good or superior, but there is a hell of a lot more people using and developping for Windows), and it's also true for other programs.
IconPhile, as I said, is just as good as IconPackager, but for people who want to be able to download and apply icon themes easily, there is a lot more themes being made for IP. It all depends on what people are looking for.
