Where do you guys find these off shoot programs like Total Commander and ACDSee? How do you here about it and how do you know its safe?

FAR - http://farmanager.com/ whetever I do - it's plugin system is so extensive that it's almost an operating system for them. Incredibly fast and lightweight. I guess I'm tainted by the DOS times though - not everyone can stand console apps any longer.

Photoshop Elements is the other one - I cannot afford and honestly do not need all the things in regular Photoshop.
I like Firefox - but would do with any browser with tabbed UI.
Outlook 2003 for mail (never found an app that even comes close) and MirandaIM for my IM needs.

of course all the must have Stardock apps - but that's obvious since we're at Wincustomize.

Dev Skinstudio really had to dust the cobwebs off this one.
For me it's Outlook for Calendar, Contacts, Tasks & Email- currently using version 2003 (required to do business)
and AutoCAD for Land Development Plans production- currently using version 2005 (required to be in business)
oh and lest I forget Solitare for when I'm so tired I can't concentrate.

And all look so much better thanks to my Object Desktop subscription.

Outlook. Without it, I'm more useless than I am now. I have become an ObjectDock addict recently and have grown to depend on it.

PhotoShop. Without a graphic program skinning is impossible

The MOST valuable to me is photoshop. Most of my creations come from 3DS Max, Freehand, and Illustrator, I don't make stuff much with photoshop, but if not for it, I wouldn't be able to put much of what I make to use.
