Tiles Public Beta Released!

Stardock has released the public beta for Tiles today.  Tiles is an application that lets users organize their desktop applications into pages of tiles.  You can quickly view and manage your running applications with Tiles as a customizable sidebar.  The look of Tiles can also be customized further with additional themes, background images, and more.

The beta version is fully functional with the company looking for feedback from users on additional features and usability they would like to see. Users can also optionally add features through the integrated in DLC interface.

You can download the free app here!

Different that ODNT subscribers will have full functionality.  The update on Impulse/Stardock store otherwise includes just some fixes and such.

I entered my Object Desktop email and password and it won't activate the extra features.  Still asks me to activate again when I get back to that screen.

What is my store address that I can go and download

Thanks for any help

Are you sure the features did not activate (and so vanish from the list) and just leave you with an ObjectDesktop item + the premium skin in the list?

If so thats perfectly normal.

An easy way to tell if things activated is if there is a skins item on the left hand list or not.  If so it activated something.

yes there is a skins menu items so it may have been activated at download.  What threw me is the Add features screen has an enabled "Activate existing purchases" button.  I assumed that would go away once I had activated it but obviously now.  I know at the previous beta release I did have to go through the activation process once but the setup screen was visibly different after that.

I'm one of those who didn't really understand Tiles.  Your demo changed that and I now intend to take advantage of it.  Thanks very much.

I just wanted to say I totally love Tiles. Is very easy and very useful when I do my Photoshops.

I noticed there is an update fo Tiles. I purchased and downloaded the app from https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. I launched the Impulse app, and there is an update from v0.95.0 to v.98.0 available. I tried to register, but it won't accept my registration code. Everything else is filled out correctly. In other words, I can't get to the upgrade (v.98.0). How can I get the lastest upgrade?

I'll need to verify on Monday, but I believe that is the .98 version.

Go ahead and run it until we get everything straightened out.

Zubaz-

Out of curiosity I downloaded both the My Products file and the Free download file and compared them using the explorer "properties" command.  The file version on the My Products file reports as 95 and the free download reports as 98, and they are different actual filesizes. It looks like the My Products page may not have been updated yet.

I'm not at all concerned about it, just hoping to perhaps add some clarity.

They have different feature sets, so I suppose they could have different file sizes.  The free & OD versions could also have different version numbers and still be the 'same version'.

I tried Tiles on a virtual machine. It's okay. I do like how when you switch to a different window, it can fill the screen. It's better than Alt+Tab no doubt. One thing puzzles me. Why does this FREE program require you to PAY for extra features?

There is a "Free" part of the program, and if you want the extra features, you pay for them... like so many other programs, like Object Dock.

Free programs frequently some with "extras" like tool bars to get the developer remuneration for his work. Here, that's not the case. Not with any Stardock Program (except on the WC skin browser which is not spyware).

Also, 'Freeware' frequently becomes abandoned by its developer (no motive for continuing to develop)... in which case it withers and becomes incompatible with the OS or other software.

Also, it gives you the opportunity to work with the program and see if you need the 'pay for' features.

So, all in all, fair dinkum....no one likes to work for free.

;)

You're welcome to create those extra features yourself.  No charge.

I watched part of the video and decided to not only install Tiles on my host machine but purchase 3 of the features as well (skin support, taskbar support, and custom pages).  Tiles is pretty cool once these extra features are added in.  It's like a more functional Windows Sidebar.  Not to mention you can add whatever picture file you want as a background.  That I wasn't expecting.  You won me over once again Stardock. :star:
