FIX THE DAMN SIDEBAR!

Coordinating battles is next to impossible when the fleet management area is bouncing all over the damn place!  If I want to totally micromanage individual ships to attack specific targets it's worse than trying to pass a kidney stone on X.

I have no issues. But then again I virtually shut off the sidebar to nothing.

Same.

Fleet tree does need some love. It's a pain in the ass alright. I try to use groups instead and just use the fleet tree to see health and numbers

Huh??  Then how do you select units (effectively)?

I feel the same way as the original post.  FIX THE DAMN SIDEBAR!  In long games, I can't hardly make a selection.

Devs. please at least, just widen the sidebar.  That alone would help greatly.

I was very dissapointed that sidebar improvements were not mentioned in the new upcoming feature list.

What happened with the requested suggestions?

Only pin the gravity well where the excitement is, that's how.

Wow!  Then you don't know/see whats happening elsewhere.  So how do you keep track?

And the damn thing will still jump around because you can't unpin the top selection (ships in transit).  Can you?  I know you can collapse the top item, but it still causes jumping around.

No, you can't unpin that, but if you don't have any ships pinned, it doesn't come up, so problem solved.

Except when you research techs that show enemy ships in hyperspace ;)

Oh yeah?  Could have sworn that only mattered if you had a ship pinned.

Edit: Upon further review, I'm still right.  You must have a ship pinned that is in hyperspace in order for that little deally yo thing to pop up, otherwise, it's not an issue.  So back to what I had originally said, if you don't pin ships, then you don't have to deal with it...  But to add to that, even if you do pin ships, as long as they're not jumping, you still don't have to worry about it.

Edit 2: Or have a ship that is selected that is in hyperspace.  If none are selected it doesn't come up.

By being very very very very very selective about what I pin.

OK, so I tried unpinning a bunch of stuff, and it really helped the jumpiness.  Auto pinning frigates seems to be the biggest culprit.

Not sure how well I'll be able to monitor my empire yet, but I like the improvement so far.  Thanks guys, for the advice.

You should also see a improvement in your FPS during late game also.

Having everything auto pinned is one of the biggest drops in FPS mid-to-late game.

It wont fix it 100% but you should see a difference depending on how you use the empire tree.

Glad to see someone else learning pinning everything is not the way to go.

I would suggest, just pinning border worlds if you like to manage your empire like that. Or key production worlds. etc etc. Maybe auto-pin your main battle fleet. or 1 of the caps in it if you use the fleet mechanics or ctrl groups.

I wish they had a toggle for auto pinning starbases. But I digress.
