You don't put a mod with the .exe file. You need to put it in your mod folder which can be found by going into the game options, then the mod tab, and hitting the "show mod path" button.

Go into your Folder preferences in the Control Panel and check Show Hidden Folders. Then when you go into your Library (where you find the Documents, Pictures and Video folders) there should be a transparent folder called AppData. From there go to Local, Ironclad, Sins of a Solar Empire, and then the appropriate Mod folder for your version. If you have all the DLC, then you'll go for Diplomacy 1.32. Keep in mind that you have to run the game before it creates the mod folder. This s where mods are installed.

*keep in mind I'm referencing off memory. My names might be approximate and if I'm missing any steps, I'm sure you can probably figure it out given what I gave you.

typing on a broken keyboard too. Fun fun.

Stupid me, you're talking in game. The mods tab should be at the bottom of the Options tabs on the left, depicting a gear symbol. Dunno why it wouldn't be there unless you messed with a core function of the game.

Make sure you went to the options from the main menu, not in game. But...

wait i can do this on sins of a solar empire not dip or trin?

Version 1.0 of the original Sins of a Solar Empire did not have mod support. You need to update your game first. What mod are you wanting to run?

If you have Impulse loaded, just open it and it can provide all updates necessary.

Keep in mind that the SoNE that I saw said:

**Only tested in Entrenchment 1.051**

(so far works in Diplo, but not tested)

So, if you don't have Entrentchment, I can't say it will work. Of course, any update since then could have bugged it up.

Once you've updated the game through Impulse (you can load it via your CD or the Impulse website) you can run the game to produce the appropriate mod folders. This must be done first.

To change folder options:

Go to Control Panel

Open Folder Options

Click the View tab at the top

Under Hidden Files and Folders in the list, click Show Hidden Files and Folders

Clikc Apply and Ok. This should allow you to see AppData in your Libraries folder

Go to AppData

Open Local

Open Ironclad Games

Open Sins of a Solar Empire

Mods belong in the folder Mods-(current version name and number)

As GoaFan pointed out, you need to go to Options from the Main Menu, not the In Game Menu.

When you activate a mod, you select the mod, press Enable Mod and then press Apply Changes.

That's it.
