it was.... a ROUT

CONGRATULATIONS TO SAM... I absolutely loved it, and was completely disgusted with Williams behavior... as usual.

Class vs. Classless.

always glad when someone wipes Serena off the court.... the fact that it was our Sam..made it extra sweet.....

after Serena's 2009 outburst at the US Open... she should have been banned for years...she's an ugly loser....

Congtratulations Sam!!... all that hard work's paid off....made us proud....

Congratulations to Sam Stosur. And i agree, i love it when either of the Williams sisters gets beaten. The sad thing is that Sam will only get a fraction of the recognition that Cadel Evans got after he won the Tour De France. Bet Sam doesn't get a victory parade down mainstreet Melbourne. Bet there are no calls to rename any bridges after her and as far as i am concerned Sams victory was done on talent alone. Cadels was done with the backing of millions of dollars in high tech bikes and gear. Good on ya Sam, A real legend. :)

Nimbin wrote "i love it when either of the Williams sisters gets beaten". Why? That statement seems hateful.

Stosur played a great match, especially her return of Serena's serve in the add court. Over and over she successfully completed that run-around forehand shot. Congrats to her.

And to think, I have a stiff neck and my physiotherapist suggests I go watch live tennis from about halfway for physio.... nope, ain't gonna happen. :-"

Still, I'm glad Sam Stosur stuck it to that Williams brat. Gets beat by somebody she underestimated... and spits the dummy big time.

Like why is it that high ranking tennis players feel they have a monopoly on tantrums... abominable public behaviour?

Well, I for one.. DO have severe dislike, distaste, perhaps even hate for Serena Williams.. she is a spoiled brat, a bully, she's classless and a bad ambassador for American tennis, Great talent or not. She needs to understand that this kind of behavior, threats, ugly self indulged tantrums will not be tolerated on the ATP, or by fans. Especially when the umpire was 100% correct in her ruling.

I live to see her beaten and a $2000 fine.. was absolutely pathetic for her treatment of the ref, opponent, and the Sport.

I would be quite happy to see her banned from all the majors.

Again, congrats to Sam Stosur, and to Australians the world over.

so she gets $1.4 mill in prize money and a $2000 fine...  while she's on probation from the previous episode...   :-|   perhaps those fines should be changed to % based on their earnings from the championship....

..and Alicia Molik reports courtside how gracious Serena was in defeat to Sam... perhaps she didn't notice that Serena didn't shake hands with the Umpire... :-|

winstar4.... it's not hate... it's dislike of people trashing 'sportsmanship' in a sport we love...

I've never thought the Williams girls have done anything for women's tennis.... their game is just power slamming... women's tennis used to be clever, tactics... had to use your brain not your brawn...

For her to do that again....especially in a final... she should have been booted from the next Open... I've nothing but contempt for the USTA and Gram Slam Committee.

“Williams’ conduct, while verbally abusive, does not rise to the level of a major offence under the Grand Slam Code of Conduct.”

they need to rethink their "Code of Conduct"... but then again.... it's all about money isn't it....she's  a drawcard.....   :-|

It's like back in the McEnroe days... people would go to watch his dummy spits.... not his tennis.... and he was a damn good player... he didn't need to turn on the theatrics... and now, looking back, to me, it detracts from his tennis achievements...

I don't have the energy to express hate for her, but I have to agree with everything you said.  Serena Williams is a spoiled brat and she needs her wings clipped.

For mine, it would surprise me somewhat if she didn't have a nutsack in those tennis panties of hers.... cos she certainly behaves and grunts on court like she has a set of balls.

Sam Stosur, on the other hand.  I saw a TV interview with her earlier in the year and she comes across as a very modest and polite young lady.... definitely a better sport and tennis ambassador by far.
