Doc, last I knew about 3 weeks ago Jim still doesn't live in NC and is in no way in any harm from the storm where he does live. Unless he moved in the last 3 or 4 weeks. I'm in southern NJ and not even worried about this little thing. There will maybe be some trees down but hey they come down with a bad Thunderstorm here. The news people blow things up 10 fold and when things are over always have an excuse. No offense really but it's like someone going to the Doctors because they had to blow their nose.

Not in this case... last I heard the Hurricane is 600 miles wide and growing.

That is a humongous monster of a storm, and though forecasters have downgraded its strength some, it will still have destructive winds and rain to rival Katrina's when it hits fand-fall

Some experts are already calling it the Storm of the Century.

All I can say is good fortune to everybody and take care all.

Actually, RnD is in Greeneville, Tennessee. I think Po' lives in the Carolinas though which may explain the huge low pressure zone in the area.

In all seriousness though, I hope everyone in the area stays safe and the damages are minimal.

Bright sunny skies in SC this morning...we dodged the bullet.

Looks like the wind speed has died down a little and it's at 85 mph now. Keep in mind it's not the wind speed that's dangerous...it's the shit it picks up and throws at that speed that'll get ya.

Dave, sounds like you have'nt been through one...if you'd have, you'd change your tune.

Even a cat 1 storm is enough to scare the shit out of someone. If you're in the path, get prepared. Expect to go a few weeks without power and if you haven't stocked up on food and water, you may go hungry. Although it may be a mute point since the roads will probably be impassible due to debris and downed trees, a full tank of gas is a good thing to have.

Yup Doc, it's true....your favorite redneck lives in Greeneville, Tennessee. Thanks for the concern though. I am praying for those in the path of Irene.     

Dave, you're in Jersey, you evacuating? I just saw on the tube that some of New Jersey is being evaced.    

I expect to get some rain from Irene, that's all. We need some.

Actually it's 800 miles wide now and things have changed a bit before my last post. I was actually trying to talk the storm into leaving and hoping but it doesn't look good out there right now. They now say we will be in it for about 22 hours more.

  Yep and I was finally correct about Jim. Even shocked me to be right. Make note to myself, Dave right 8/27/11. May not happen again.

Staying put. With 8 to 15 inches of rain predicted I may be floating on my roof but staying. We will most likely lose power overnight with the trees falling on the wires so if you don't see me around never fear as I will be back whether you want me or not.Under a tornato watch now so what's up with that. I'm in NJ.

I have two brothers and a sister on the coast of Virginia, the Tidewater area and my sis says they have been without power since about noon and the eye of the storm should have just passed over them if predictions are right. She said the rain was relentless but the winds have not been too ferocious as of yet. She just finished remodeling her home and is worried about the flooding as she is close to the Elizabeth river. There is lots of water in that area to cause flooding. I am keeping a good thought for my folks there!

I'm here in Jersey right across from Philadelphia. It's been a steady rain and the wind is about 10mph as of now. They say it will keep up until Sunday afternoon. I just hope the electricity doesn't go out. They said there is about a million people in the states below that lost electricity.
