I've been a Bad BAD Boy

........again

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d3100/

Yeah, I've been saving a while now to buy a car for mrs s ..... but I couldn't resist dipping into it to get her this.....

and it came with this.....

A digital SLR camera had been something she had wanted ever since having a play with my niece's camera about 12 months ago, so when I saw this on on special and coming with a bonus battery as well I figured why not.  Let's just say that 800 bucks goes a long way when you have cash in hand [I never use a card] and are willing to haggle.  The sale price was $997 so I reckon I did alright.

It might set back buying the car [second-hand BTW] by about 6 - 8 months, but she had been feeling a bit down and I wanted to do something to cheer her up.   I succeeded... and now I'm happier as well.  Besides, setting back the car means she will have a bit more time to get proper lessons [compulsory these days] before going for her drivers license.

Anyhow, mrs s is over the moon with her new toy and will probably want to show off a few shots here once she becomes accustomed to using this one.  There's a bit more of a learning curve with this one, as compared to her Sony, so expect some [none of me] happy snaps in a couple of days or so.

Anyway, While your in the spirit of getting Starkers, man, I sure could use a new Firewire sound card!

Great deal, starkers... though a shade less comfortable to travel in... ;)

You did very well with that! Congrats to you both!

Nice...so were you able to haggle the price down to $800.00?

That's about the strength of it..... and why tempt fate, even if it was a good deal. :-"

Nah, this one's definitely for mrs s.  I might snap a few happy shots along the way, but she is the one with the knack for it.

Yeah, me too... but if I couldn't get me one [had to settle for a PCIE unit].... maybe one day.

Yup, the car will have to wait a little while longer, but that's no biggie.  We were waiting a while anyhow.... and this was the instant gratification I felt appropriate.

Yup, I could refer to other outlets who were beating them on price... and when you have cash in hand they'd rather not see you walk out the door with it and go elsewhere.  I do it all the time... shop around and keep undercutting previous offers, then go back to the best deal.

It looks like you're going to have loads of fun, I see tons of photoshop opportunities in your future. ;)

RnD sent us a Kodak digital a while back and my wife hasn't stopped taking pictures with it since. I still break out my Pentax once in awhile but film and developing costs are just too pricey to use it much anymore.

It's a great hobby, and now you have something to take pictures of your upcoming auto purchase with.

All the gear and no idea ;p

Set the A M on the lens to A. If there's a C S M on the camera next to the lens, set that to S. You should now have AF...

probably...

C'mon Jafo, give the kid a break... she'd only had it 5 mins when that shot was took.

Like I said, there'll be a couple of days getting accustomed to it.

Oh... and the effing manual.... 'tis as thick as two short planks.... rivals a substantial paperback [thickness-wise] and you wouldn' wanna drop it on yer foot.

Congratulations on the new "addition" to the family, Mrs. Starkers!  Kudos to the spouse for knowing what's important in life!
