System Requirements for :x2-faster Game Speed?

Currently my pc and laptop have the same issue of lag on small/med maps:

Laptop

Centrino 2 (Dual Core) @ 2Ghz

3gb ram

Nvidia 9300 gs 256mb plus Shared Dddr2 ram

PC

Core Duo 2 e4300 @ 1.8 overclocked to 2.4Ghz

Nvidia GTX 460 -768mb Factory Clocks.

3gb ram

I play on low settings for both because the game lags during fleet battles.

Has anyone tested the game with higher cpu clock speeds and solved the lag for x2-faster game speeds? Its clear the game is cpu bound. Nvidia GPUs never let me down. I also notice on my friends computer the game doesn't use all four cores on a quad core cpu.

My current cpu is a 65nm design so its not a good overclock-er in terms of how much heat it generates. I i usually use my laptop for the more quiet cooling noise.

I know i should try slower speeds which is fine for both rigs--but got things to do so i never get the time to play long games.

Well sadly Sins has not been designed to take advantage of multi-core cpus, so having 1 or 4 cores doesn't change much the game performance, as it will only uses 1 core. And this is not going to change soon, Rebellion will stay on the same base engine.

Clock speed and general CPU efficiency matter much more than the number of cores for Sins.

My i5 3.2ghz works fine, but I don't think it would handle big entire games at twice speed... But... Why not just play at normal speed when you have a bit of time, then save, and continue your game later ?

Yeah but aren't most MP games at x2?

Most MP games have everything set to "faster" game speed this isn't the same as the single player 2x speed.

faster

Yeah I knew about the faster but I assumed 2x game speed my bad.

Well solved my problem. The actual movement of the ships at x2-faster was chewing up my cpu-- i reduced the movements of the ships to below normal while playing at x2 -faster for everything else.

The actual pacing of the game is faster due to the economy and ship production while not  having to deal major lag during battles. I enjoyed a full game on my laptop with no problems. I guess for larger maps its possible to play on my pc.
