Vasari: Fabricators (construction frigates) sometimes refuse to continue building

As the title says. Sometimes when playing as Vasari, some or all of my construction frigates will suddenly refuse to keep building a structure. As in, it gets 1% built (or, sometimes, 35%, or more), and then the construction frigate stops "constructing" for a minute or two, and only then keeps building the structure. This has never happened while playing any of the other races. Manually telling the lazy construction frigate to construct the structure, or telling another construction frigate in the gravity well to construct the structure, returns "Target must be an unfinished structure" - it can't be fixed.

This happens to planets even a long time after having been colonized, and even when there are no enemies anywhere near the gravity well.

It doesn't happen all that often, but often enough to be quite annoying, especially when I NEED the structure there as soon as possible.

Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas why it happens?

First of all:  check that the logistics or tactical planetary upgrade isn't pending.  If the upgrade isn't complete, the structure won't build.  The effect is exactly what you're describing; they start construction up to 1%, then stop completely for a minute or so until the logistics/tactical upgrade is done.

Looks like that was it - this was most prominent during a test when I was building a ton of Kosturas and had all my planets upgrade their structure capacity.

And it does seem to happen for the other races, now that I test it. Given that I almost always play TEC I have no idea why I never noticed it happen for them before.

I'll have to be on the lookout for the times when it stops constructing when it's already at like 30% or something. It hasn't happened recently, but I'm almost certain it's happened a few times.

It's the same issue.  The first structure does not need the logistics upgrade, so it begins constructing normally.  The second structure does, and the moment it hits 1% all other structures under construction are frozen, which could cause a structure to get stopped at 30%.

You can see a similar effect with fleet upgrades.  If you queue up units to fill the pending upgrade, no units will build even if you've still got free space for them.

Didn't know about that effect with the fleet upgrade.  I thought I was preordering units.  In other games you could overfill the que without affecting the current builds

Yeah it is kind of annoying...requires you to really pay attention...fortunately it does not do this for technologies, so no worries there...if you lose a lab while researching a tech that would have required that lab, it will save your progress, and you can research lower level technologies if you want...

Same for queuing up techs for labs under construction.  Very convenient.

Clarification Darvin...if I have one lab but am building a second, and I que up a tier 2 while currently researching a tier 1 tech, will the game finish researching the tier 1 no matter what or will it go to the tier 2 as soon as the 2nd lab is built?

I actually rarely que up techs beyond the one I'm currently researching so I never actually see this...

If you queue up the tier 1 before you queue up the tier 2, then yes you will always complete the T1 research first.

However, if you queue up a T2 research first and then the T1 research, then the T1 research will be suspended the moment the second lab completes and the T2 research will begin.  The T1 research will resume once the T2 completes.

A research is only suspended if a research item you queued up earlier becomes available because of lab completion, or if you lose the necessary lab.
