the story of how his brother sucked his eyeball out when they were kids with a vacuum cleaner.... always made my eye hurt... 
Loved Columbo and never got tired of the reruns. He will be sadly missed.He lost the eye due to a tumor.
Oh crap! I never heard that one! Now my eye hurts! 
well, I read it in supposed interview years ago... apparently not true... maybe he said it tongue in cheek 'cause he got tired of people asking..

Wow, Columbo was one of my most favorite detective sitcoms.. I loved the disheveled character he played.... gawd, what a bummer!
Always liked Mystery Movie night...Columbo, McMillan & Wife, McCloud, Banacek but he was my favorite.
