error when trying to open sins with impulse

a friend of mine bought me sins of a solar empire - trinity over a year ago and every time i install it i cant open the game with impulse when i try it brings up the screen to play trinity or pick a chapter but any option on that screen says "please run setup.exe on your cd or reinstall useing impulse" this was a digital purchase so theres no cd and ive reinstalled the game twice with impulse and still wont work but i can go into the program files on my comp and run it like that. anyone know how to fix this problem or what may be wrong? ive reinstalled sins twice and reinstalled impulse as well and no luck forced impulse to find sins on my comp it updated after that but still has the same error

Impulse/ Upper left corner dropdown menu/ Detect Application. Point to Impulse base install folder.

ive done that to detect the application it then updated saying updateing from v0.0.0 to v1.21.024 but still gives the error of not running and need to reinstall with impulse

no i never had a ironclad games folder in my program files the game is listed under stardock games in my program files thats the only folder tied with impulse in any way that i have still and sins is installed in the stardock games folder

when i install the game useing impulse it auto installes the game in the stardock games folder by the way in case that means anything

My question is: How did you install it originally? Does Impulse show this as fully licenced with any/all expanisions?

oh yes its fully registered and all it was a digital purchase and listed on impulse as sins of a solar empire - trinity and was origionally installed with impulse when i got it had same issue when i first got it as well with the please run setup.exe off your cd or reinstall with impulse
